Rourkela Institute of Technology ( RIT ), the first professional institute of its kind in western Orissa and situated near the confluence of river Sankha and Koel adjoining the industrial city of Rourkela bordering Orissa and Jharkhand enjoys the reputation of providing quality education in both Technical and management courses for more than two decades since its formation in the mid-eighties of the departed century. It was established in the year 1984 under the Sponsorship of the Rourkela Technical Education Society (RTES) duly registered under the society registration act 1860. As such it has become the favorite destination of aspiring students who are interested to equip themselves with professional qualifications and acquire sufficient expertise in order to successfully compete in the job market and ensure a bright career. The institution that in the year 1984 started with three core engineering branches - Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical has added three more engineering branches, namely, Metallurgy, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, and the Post-Graduation branch of MCA & MBA.

. Two separate and spacious air-conditioned and acoustically computer laboratorySeparate canteens for staff and students. The canteen is managed by the institute and coordinated by the welfare committee. The committee fixes the canteen charges which is primarily on a cost-to-cost basis.
Hostel:Separate hostels for boys and girls are available. Hostels are well equipped with basic and modern useful amenities to cater to the needs of the boarders. There is no substitute for home and its care but we have taken enough care to create a homely environment for the comfortable stay of the students in the hostels. Nutritious foods are essential for the physical and mental growth of the students. The hostel provides tasty and nutritious food in time. To ensure the quality of food, it is mandatory to check the institution's authorities. The security of the hostels is given primary importance. The staff and the warden of the hostels are well-trained and are equipped to cope with the situations like safety, security, and the well-being of the students. Each hostel has been provided with a telephone, TV, Magazines, and Newspapers and contains indoor games.
Library:RIT believes that a good library is an integral part of providing a complete education. The books of the library cover the entire spectrum of the syllabus and allied subjects. The library at RIT is well equipped and well stocked with test and reference books in order to satisfy the quest for knowledge on the part of the students and provide support to academic research and management programs. The library is fully automated with more than 30000 books at present. Steps are being initiated to establish e-library facilities inside the campus. Besides the library has an excellent collection of audiovisual materials relating to management, corporate sector, Govt., establishment, and national and international affairs. The availability of a wide range of selected journals, magazines, and newspapers of repute is a special feature of the library. The library also provides a book bank facility to needy and deserving students.
Transportation:The institution has its own fleet of buses to cater to the needs of its students and staff members. These buses serve as a link between the campus and the town.
