Ever since the British period the twin towns of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai, intersected by the Perennial River Thamirabarani, have been great centers of learning. The Tirunelveli district has a sizeable Muslim population which necessitated the need for an institution of higher education. Due to the dedicated and sincere efforts of the Muslim elite, a College of Arts and Sciences, named after the renowned Arabic scholar Sadakathullah Appa, was started in 1971. The College aims at producing holistic personalities by introducing globally relevant subjects and imbibing in Them a flair for learning, internalizing exceptional practices, an Institutional way of life, and dedication to the direction of the community. Sadakathullah Appa College, Tirunelveli  College which celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1999 volunteered for assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, and was accredited with B+ in the year 2003. Subsequently, the College became reaccredited with an A Grade withinside the yr 2009.

Library:

The College Library functions since 1971, since its inception. The library is shelved as an independent department on the campus with a floor area of nearly 2,000 sq. Ft. Library users have always cherished memories of availing the services of this treasure-house of documents in the past decades. A rare collection of journals in literature is present in this library in foreign languages such as Arabic. Automation of this library consisting of over forty thousand documents was made possible by the initial financial support of the UGC grants under the head "College Management" and the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Library is in the process of modernization. We are proud to say that our library is fully automated. We have issued identity cards to the students with bar codes. The e-gate facility enables to monitor of the entry, exit, book issue, and book return of the students.

Admission

Admissions at SAC College Palayamkottai is purely merit-based. Students who have qualified for the previous academic stage with good marks are eligible to apply for admission. Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research courses such as B.Sc., BBA, B. Com, BCA, BBM, BA, M.A., and M.Com. and M.Sc., etc. Admission to all the courses of the college is merit-based.
