Samastipur College is the first institution of higher learning opened to cater to the educational needs of the people of Samastipur, established in 1947, it Aliated to first Patna University in 1949 for Intermediate. On the establishment of Bihar University, the college had been alienated from this university in 1953 onwards for Intermediate (Arts and Science) as well as for Bachelor (Arts and Science) courses. Further on the establishment of L.N. Mithila University, the college had alienated to this university from 1972 onwards for Intermediate, Bachelor, and Master courses. The College became a Constituent unit of L.N. Mithila University in 1976. The College was recognized by UGC under its sections 2(f) & 12(B) in Nov 1976.

The college has come a long way from the time the pioneers envisioned and undertook the difficult task of establishing a college at a time when only a few truly enlightened and far-sighted persons were prepared to support this infant project in a place where higher education was frowned upon, if not rejected outright. Established by the provision of 15 acres of land and the collective financial help of the great visionary villagers of Samastipur Subdivision especially Late Thakur Prasad Sharma, Ram Charitra Singh, Sri Balram Singh, ETC.. In the later stage, the big donor was G.D. Birla through the Ex-Governor of MP, Sri Satyanarayan Sinha.

Well-equipped labs, a rich library, and reading rooms are some of the basic state-of-the-art educational facilities. Study centers for IGNOU and Maulana Azad National Urdu Open University, Hyderabad (MANUU) are offering a number of certificate, diploma, and degree programs in distant modes. Regular consultation classes and remedial sessions are held for the students of the programs under IGNOU and MANUU.

We can be proud of our existing Library facility. The number of books in the Library is increasing day by day because of grants from LNMU, State Govt. and also our own internal resources. There are ample opportunities for the students to spend their time in the reading room in our Library. Students can also take the help of computer searching methods to find their desired books, journals, etc. from the Library.

We have active laboratories supporting flexible frameworks, holding dynamic student work groups, research zones, and equipment in unlimited arrangements. State-of-the-art innovation labs were established to provide hands-on experience with modern-day technologies. Our laboratory program initiates the very foundation of programming skills for students from every engineering stream. Our aim is to provide accustomed developing programs using different system environments for the students. These laboratories are the ideal destination for active learning. Students learn in a real-world environment, function as team members, discuss the planning of experiments and share ideas about the analysis and interpretation of data.

In the past few years, students of our college have taken part in various events and have brought prizes for the college. Colleges like ours (Grant in Aid) take part in the events organized by Universities, State Government at the district level or at State Level with limited resources. But from the year 2016-17, our resources increased so as the inspiration of the students to do something. There is a sports fee that is imposed on the students but it is negligible for overall development. At present, our college students take part in sports and games in four stages.
