On 21 September, 2012, the then President of Sri Lanka Shri Mahindra Rajapaksa laid the foundation stone of the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies together with the former Prime Minister of Bhutan HE Jigme Yoser Thinley on a hillock on the Bhopal-Vidisha Highway having its proximity to Sanchi-better known for its Buddhist stupas.
In 2013, the university was established. Sanchi University of Buddhist Indic Studies is a public university. The campus of the University covers an area of approximately 120 acres in the vicinity of a hillock along the highway Bhopal-Sanchi close to the tropics of cancer. Special Merit for Scholarships Three top rank holders with an 80% or more in the entrance exam of any course or program receive the chance to win a scholarship at the University for exceptional merits.
BPL Scholarships for students The top three BPL students who scored 70% or more in the entrance exam of any course are eligible for the chance to win this award (excluding Ph.D. and M.Phil. students).
Awards for M.Phil. as well as Ph.D. students Students in these two programs are eligible to receive the option of receiving this award.
Concession and Exemption: University offers a fee concession for students who fall under the SC/ST/OBC category (except those in the cream layer). These benefits are only granted to those who reside in Madhya Pradesh. Physically challenged and blind students get exemptions from paying tuition fees only.
