The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was established in November 1945 as a national-level apex advisory body with the aim of conducting a comprehensive survey of the available facilities for technical education and promoting development in a coordinated and integrated manner across the country. The AICTE Act was formulated to establish the council, intending to facilitate proper planning and coordinated development of the technical education system throughout India. Its objectives include promoting qualitative improvements in technical education alongside planned quantitative growth, as well as regulating and maintaining norms and standards within the technical education system and related matters.

Established in 1998 under the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Act 13, 1998, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya occupies an expansive campus spanning approximately 247 acres. The university is committed to evolving into a center of excellence in the realms of Technical Education, Research, and Innovation. It encompasses 5 University Teaching Departments (UTDs) along with 200 affiliated Engineering Colleges, 98 Pharmacy Colleges, 95 MCA Colleges, and 4 Architecture Colleges. These institutions offer undergraduate-level instructions across 17 courses and diploma courses in emerging and conventional disciplines through 85 Polytechnic institutions. Rajiv Gandhi Technical University has embraced modernization, establishing a strong online presence and providing a wide array of courses catering to diverse interests. These courses span fields such as Management, Forensic Science, Fashion, Engineering, Space Sciences, Social Work, Nanotechnology, Communication, and Pharmacy.
The university boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including air-conditioned amphitheater-style classrooms and a well-stocked library equipped with books, periodicals, national and international journals, and CD-ROMs covering all facets of academic studies and research.
