The School of Engineering was established in 1978 to offer part-time M.Tech. programs in key engineering disciplines namely Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering for practicing engineers in the Cochin area. The research activity began in 1981 with the doctorate. programs. The school introduced B.Tech. Programs in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Communications Engineering, Computer Science and Computer Engineering, and Informatics in 1995, proved to be a milestone in the development of the School.B. Safety and fire protection technology was added in 1996. An integrated five-year MSc. The Software Engineering course was launched in 2001. 

The School of Engineering has been well-received as a research center. Numerous research projects have been approved by authorities such as DSDT, Central Water Commission, ISRO, AICTE, Coir Board, Kerala State Coir Corporation, etc. They helped set up fully equipped laboratories and promoted research activities. Theme. (by research) the program was introduced in 2001 in various disciplines. The research community of the School has published papers in international/national level journals.

School of Engineering offers Undergraduate Programs (B.Tech.) Naval Architecture And Ship Building, (B.Tech.) Polymer Science And Technology, (B.Tech.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and (B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering (Lateral Entry),  (B.Tech.) in Information Technology Engineering (Lateral Entry), (B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering (Lateral Entry), and Postgraduate Programs (M.Tech.) in Power Electronics, (M.Tech.) in Software Engineering, (M.Tech.) in Geotechnical Engineering, (M.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering.

The School of Engineering Library (SOE) is one of the largest libraries serving the information needs of the school's students, teachers, and researchers. The library offers free and equal access to all sources of information. Open Access guarantees the free search, selection, and use of library materials. Library cards are issued to members for lending books for external use. The library's reading room offers reference services. The library is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. without interruption. The library functions are managed by experienced staff. The library stores resources in a secure environment for long-term use.
