SMS was founded in 1964 and was originally a part of Kerala University. With the founding of Cochin University in July 1971, the school merged and became an integral part of what is now known as Cochin University of Science and Technology. Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is ranked as one of the top universities in the world by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022 and is the only university in Kerala to make the list.

The school has 6 intelligent classrooms, all equipped with modern audio and video systems. All classrooms are equipped with speakers, lanyard microphones, whiteboards, and smartboards to enable seamless interactive learning. 

Computer rooms: 

The Institute has a Wi-Fi-enabled campus with modern IT and digital facilities. The SMS computer laboratory is equipped with over 50 workstations and has a first-class ICT infrastructure, including high-quality hardware, software, and communication systems. Established in 1989, the Computer Center is one of seven Tier III centers spread across different parts of India under the ICOSER project initiated by the DST of the Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC). High-performance computers have been made available to promote scientific research in the region. Tier III centers across the country are linked by 64 kbps data links with connectivity to the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, which coordinates the ICOSER project nationwide. 

Library:

The School of Management Studies (SMS) Library is housed in a two-story building and has its own history making it one of the best business school libraries in South India. It is well-equipped and organized with a large collection of books and digital resources to intellectually stimulate management students, professionals, and researchers. As the institute's information center, the library provides a stimulating learning environment and offers a well-curated selection of physical and electronic books, journals, standards, periodicals, and newspapers, as well as a collection of rare books and scholarly publications. The 2,000-seat book bank serves as a learning aid, as do more than 5,000 Ph.D. students and M.Phils.Theses and project presentations.

Hostels: 

The college houses over 2,000 students in 14 on-campus dormitories - 8 for boys and 6 for girls - and offers double and triple rooms for inmates. The university also has an international hostel for international students. The residential campus offers security services in the form of 24/7 car and foot patrols, 24-hour emergency lines, lighted sidewalks, and hostels with restricted access. In addition to the canteen in the halls of residence, there are also two canteens and a kiosk on campus that offer high-quality snacks and nutritious food. Numerous sports facilities such as cricket nets, badminton, table tennis and basketball courts spread across the campus will surely inspire a spirit of inclusion, participation, and collaboration among the full-time students.
