The Founder of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College Padmabhushan Shri. N. Ramaswami Ayyar started Savithri Vidyasala Hindu Girls' Higher Secondary School in the year 1938, with the noble purpose of providing education to girls in the background of Indian tradition and culture. In the year 1951, he decided to set up a women’s institution for higher studies with a view to preserving the environment he created in the high school. Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College came into being with a strength of 11 girls and grew into a full-fledged college in 1956. The Founder’s dream of women empowerment came true in an emphatic fashion recently when Smt.Nirmala Sitharaman, an Economics alumna of the college became the Defence Minister of India in September 2017.

Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College was one of the first colleges in Tiruchirappalli to opt for autonomous status in the year 1987. This has allowed us to experiment and innovate in curricular aspects. Another first to its credit is that Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College happened to be one of the first 7 colleges in the country to be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1999. In the most recent assessment by NAAC, the college has been re-accredited with an “A+” grade (4th Cycle) in recognition of its all-around academic excellence, research programs, and social outreach activities.

The College is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), NAAC, NIRF, and accredited by Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.

SRC has separate hostel blocks to accommodate around 1000 students. Hygienic vegetarian foods are served to the students.

This facility was started to provide quality education and research in basic science as well as applied fields of Sciences.

Language Lab:

The English Language Lab of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College helps to enhance the communication skills of students by improving their listening and speaking skills through the help of Audio-Visual lessons and E-modules. The Language Lab sessions aim at developing the personality skills of the students, especially of those who hail from rural backgrounds and of those who are first-generation learners, by helping them gain confidence in becoming better users of English.

Computer Center:

Computer labs are available at SRC with the latest software and hardware for the practical training of the students.

Prayer Hall:

The College has a prayer hall for the students. It is used for special prayers conducted on various functions and occasions.

Yoga Mandap:

Yoga Mandap in SRC is a hall where students can practice yoga and meditation for a peaceful body and mind.

Every department is headed by an Associate Professor and all the teachers are well-qualified.

In the 5th semester, there will be a mandatory placement training program that is conducted for the betterment of students to get placement. Many schools were offered a placement and many students were placed in companies like Wipro, Omega, etc. 90% of the students were employed after graduation.
