Selvam College of Physical Education was established by the pioneer in Poultry Industry and a Philanthropist, Dr.P.Selvaraj in 2006 under the auspices of V.Ponnusamy Educational and Charitable Trust, which was formed in the fond memory of his late father. The College is fully self – supporting and it has been founded to serve the youth of the predominantly agricultural, underprivileged, and downtrodden families in the neighborhood. Started with B.P.Ed., Course, 4 faculty members, and an initial intake of 38 students.

At present, the college has a student strength of about 145. Their economic background is poor and their School Education has been acquired through the vernacular medium. A team of 10 qualified competent and dedicated faculty members is committed to duty, discipline, and service.

Selvam College of Physical Education is approved by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education)and affiliated with TNTE(Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University).

Facilities

The College has well laid out and maintained play fields for various athletic events and Sports Hostel facilities are provided for boys and girls separately. Quarters are provided to the staff members. Other facilities provided include Computer Lab, Gymnasium, Fitness Center, etc.

The College Library has a rich collection of more than 6000 books on Physical Education, Sports, Sport Sciences, and general subjects. The College subscribes to national and International Journals and Magazines.

The College Laboratories are equipped with highly sophisticated equipment used in research in Sport Sciences and practical activities of Physical Education as well as for providing medical and Scientific back-up to students, and athletes.

Admission

•A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Physical Education degree course (B.P.Ed.,) if he/she has taken a degree from a recognized University Subject to the following conditions.

•Must have represented the School College University or District or State in any one of the games or athletics (as included in the inter University Competitions).

•Must have Secured at least 50% marks in the selection tests as indicated below.

•Subject to the procedure laid down a candidate shall be admitted to the first year of the Master of Physical Education Course provided he/she has obtained.

•A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with at least 50% aggregate marks from a University – Indian or Foreign – recognized for the purpose by the University of Kerala.
