Seth Anandram Jaipuria College is a public college, affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It was inaugurated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1945 at 10, Raja Nabakrishna Street in North Kolkata. It runs three shifts: Morning, Day, and Evening. The college has been serving society and the nation since its inception. A reputed institution in North Kolkata, Seth Anandaram Jaipuria College (SAJC) carries a long history of 65 years, housed in the famous Shovabazar Rajbari that once belonged to the families of Maharaja Naba Krishna Deb. The College has been associated with many eminent personalities involved in India’s Nationalist Movement. The most noteworthy of them is Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who inaugurated the college in 1945. It is our privilege to recall once more the perspective of the foundation of this college and to pay tribute to its founder. Seth Anandram Jaipuria College, a government-aided institution affiliated with the University of Calcutta, was established in the pre-independence era by Padmabhushan Seth Mangturamji Jaipuria. His father, Seth Anandram Jaipuria, hailed from Jaipur, Rajasthan. The college was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 22nd December 1945. Each year, Foundation Day is commemorated with an Annual Seth Anandram Jaipuria Memorial Lecture featuring esteemed speakers from various fields.

The quotes are extremely relevant as we are now marching towards a knowledge economy where the value of information and knowledge is more powerful than anything else in this world. Development is a continuous process and in the academic environment, the need is to keep the development to all the sectors of people. The development of human resources is extremely important for the overall progress of the institution. The library services are the key factor in the developing human resources of the college.

The activities of the acquisition section involve several functions for acquiring books and journals. It is in this section that the documents are acquired and prepared for use. The main activities here are checking the documents received as per office order, then stamping the ownership seals, entering each document in a register known as Accession Register, and giving a document its accession number accordingly. State Central Library maintains four different types of Access registers.

The task of the processing section includes accessioning the accession register, classifying the documents, preparing the call number, and assigning the number to the book. The main task of this section is to preparation of books to be sent to the shelves.

Students seeking admission to SAJ College can apply for the same by filling in the admission form. A recent photograph needs to be attached to the filled admission form along with the copies of HSC mark sheet for verification by the office staff. The College does not conduct any entrance examination and the selection of the candidates is done only on merit basis.

The college considers marks obtained in the top four subjects in the immediately preceding qualifying examination to determine the aggregate marks of a candidate passing the examination under the grading system. For candidates passing the higher secondary (10+2) examination from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education under the Old System, marks in the top five subjects shall be considered to ascertain their aggregate marks.
