15th August 1938 opened a new chapter with the formation of the Seth Soorajmull Jalan Trust, a charitable and religious institution that has handed down a legacy of humanitarian services, especially in the field of women's education and development.  The trust was formed under the leadership of Seth Mohanlal Jalan and other prominent members of the society. The trust is instrumental in establishing a large number of schools libraries and reading rooms and colleges in West Bengal and other parts of India. The college is presently offering UG Courses under Curriculum and Credit Framework 2022 (CCF-2022) as well as ongoing three-year Bachelor's Degree (Honours & General) courses under the CBCS examination system in various disciplines of Humanities & Commerce.  College Hours: 7:30 am - 2 pm. Library:

Seth Soorajmull Jalan Girls' College came into existence on 2nd August 1954 on the premises of Seth Soorajmull Jalan Smriti Bhawan, 186 Chittaranjan Avenue, Kolkata, under the affiliation of the University of Calcutta.  With the establishment of the College, the necessity of the College library, which is part and parcel of education, was experienced and under the kind guidance of founder President Seth M. L. Jalan, secretary Shri D.D.  Chhaochharia, founder, Principal Dr. I.V. Singh, Vice-President Prof. M. Raychoudhury, and Prof. Vimla Gupta (Head of the Department of Hindi) the College library was set up in a separate room on the 2nd floor. Besides the College library, there was provision for teachers and students of the College to utilize the facility of the library and reading hall of Seth Soorajmull Jalan Pustakalaya situated on the first floor of the same premises.  This library is a very rich library in north Kolkata for Hindi and Sanskrit literature. Besides books, this library provided several newspapers and periodicals to the students of the College for the advancement of their knowledge. Due to the increasing number of students, the room became smaller in the fall. In view of the College's development, the Board of Trustees decided to move the College, and the College was moved to its current location in September-October 1969. 8- 9, Bankim Chatterjee Street, Kolkata – 700 073 at your location. In these rooms, there is enough space for a bookshelf. The library is on the first floor and covers an area of ?? 123 feet. Fits 3"x70'.10". The library room includes a storage room, a lending room, and a reference area that are available separately for faculty and students at the college.

Institutional Membership of Student Health House, Calcutta: The College is an Institutional Member of Student Health House located at 142/2, A.J.C.Bose Road, Kolkata. Seth Soorajmull Jalan Girls College Admission

Candidates who passed H.S.(10+2) Examination conducted by the W.B.C.H.S.E or its equivalent Examination are eligible to seek admission to the 1st Semester of U.G. courses.

Students seeking admission will be admitted strictly on the basis of the Merit List after submission of application forms online as per the schedule given by the College.

An applicant can apply in Honours as well as in General Courses. In that case, a separate application has to be submitted for the Honours and General course.

An applicant can apply in more than one Honours course for Arts Stream. In that case, also, a separate application has to be submitted for each Honours course.

Applicants from Vocational Courses are not eligible to apply for Honours Courses.

All the prescribed testimonials are required to be uploaded online during application.

Payment of fees should be done only through e-payments. Online application is free of cost.

The admission process is authenticated when verification of the original marks sheet and other documents is completed after the fulfillment of the criteria.

Original documents along with the printout of the filled-up Admission Form, Payment Challan, One recent passport size color photo, Character Certificate issued by the institution attended last, and Cast Certificate recognized by the Government of West Bengal, if any, are mandatory at the time of verification.
