The College was founded in 1980 as Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Auto academy at Auto nagar. It was later upgraded to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Government Polytechnic (in 1984). It continued its operations in Auto Nagar for a total of 10 years. It was operational until 1994.
