Lighting the lamp during the Foundation Stone laying ceremony The foundation stone of the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences was laid on December 14, 1980 in the present King Georges Medical University campus by the then President of India His Excellency, Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy.
The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences was established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi. It was established by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a center of excellence to provide world-class medical care, education, and research. The institute is located on 550 acres (2. 2 square kilometers) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the capital. Lucknow is located about 500 km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine, and intricate work of chikan, a form of fine embroidery.

Residential Accommodation
Separate boys and girls hostels with high security are available on the university campus. Boys and girls have two hostels with WiFi services for UG and PG, which can accommodate about 450 students each with good infrastructure. A university van and a car are always available to meet new customer needs. A well-equipped gymnasium is set up for the students of the hostel to develop the physical abilities of boys and girls. Library
The treasury of books and periodicals is the center of intellectual activity in each institution. The Central Library works for its readers with a concern for creativity and innovation, predecessors of Research and Development. The general library of our college was established in 2000. It has a well-equipped library that accumulates over 45,024 volumes of selected books in various engineering, management, and basic and general science subjects. The library subscribes to over 143 printed periodicals. The library also has 1,531 bound volumes of periodicals. Audiovisual educational programs and video lessons often take place in the library.
Medical Services and Health Center
SGPGIMS knows that physical health is more important for students to concentrate well on their studies. The College pays particular attention to the health of students. Our college has a health center with all the facilities on the campus and also an experienced doctor who takes care of this health center. The medical service vehicle is always ready on site 24 hours a day.
Canteen
It is speckless and maintained very well. It provides good quality fresh Snacks, cool drinks, coffee, tea, and other food items in a hygienic, healthy way that suits the pockets of the student.
Sport
Physical education is strongly aimed at improving the physical and mental health of each player. This results in the development of dynamic personalities. Sports activities and achievements have helped many people get better job opportunities. The clean area with the natural gift of fresh air is an inspiring resource, motivating the player to perform better. Sports carry the same weight as academics. All sports activities are encouraged by making all facilities available when students participate in intercollegiate, intra-college, and other tournaments.
