The S.G.S. College Committee started S.G.S. College on 1st August 1968 with the noble aim of imparting the benefits of higher education to the poor and down-trodden sections of the society in and around Jaggayyapet in this backward area of West Krishna of Krishna District.
It is situated 77 km. away from Vijayawada on NH 65 (9) towards Hyderabad. Jaggayyapet with its rural surroundings is a historically prominent place, for it was a Buddhist Centre of learning and culture in the past. The College was started to meet the educational needs of this area with B.A, B.Com and P.U.C (Pre-University Course) courses with an initial strength of 105 students.

Residential Accommodation
Separate boys and girls' hostels with high security are available on the university campus. Boys and girls have two hostels with WiFi services for UG and PG, which can accommodate around 150 students each with good infrastructure. A well-equipped gymnasium is set up for the students of the hostel to develop the physical abilities of boys and girls. The rooms are spacious and airy. Furious Free Campus.
The Library
The treasury of books and periodicals is the centre of intellectual activity in any institution. The Central Library works for its readers with a concern for creativity and innovation, predecessors of Research and Development. It has a well-equipped library that accumulates over 10,000 volumes of selected books in various engineering, management, and basic and general science subjects.
Medical Services and Health Center
Smt. Gentela Sakuntalamma College, Krishna knows that physical health is more important for students to concentrate well on their studies. The College pays particular attention to the health of students. Our college has a health centre with all campus facilities and also an experienced doctor who takes care of this health centre. The medical service vehicle is always ready on site 24 hours a day.
Canteen
It provides good quality fresh Snacks, cool drinks, coffee, tea, and other food items in a hygienic, healthy way which suits the pockets of the student. It is immaculate and very well maintained.
Sport
Physical education is strongly aimed at improving the physical and mental health of each player. This results in the development of dynamic personalities. Sports activities and achievements have helped many people get better job opportunities. The clean area with the natural gift of fresh air is a stimulating resource, which motivates the player to perform better. Sport has the same weight as academics. All sports activities are encouraged by making all facilities available when students participate in intercollegiate, intra-college, and other tournaments.
