Shankar Narayan College of Arts and Commerce was established in 1994 with a vision to provide Higher and Professional Education in the vicinity of Mira-Bhayandar. The college is permanently affiliated with the University of Mumbai and recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act and accredited by NAAC with an 'A' grade in 2017. Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The college library was established in the year 1994, with meager 246 books with a budget of Rs.25,934/- only. Since then the never-ending journey of its progress and development began and the college library started growing leaps and bounds. Today the library has a collection of 48,034 books. The library’s mission is to provide comprehensive resources and services, to cater to the teaching and learning needs of the teaching fraternity, and to facilitate the needs of the individual user as well. The library is the heart of the academic setup. This heart disseminates the elixir of academic life that is knowledge to the academic community and the accomplishment of its educational objectives. The teacher imparts knowledge but it is the library that satisfies the individual’s inquisitiveness and sense of inquiry.

The college's Librarian Mr. Sandesh M. Dongare joined on 4/8/2008. Earlier the college library was on the Ground floor. Now the library has been shifted to the first floor of the college due to the increasing space demand as per the law of Library science- “Library is a growing organism”. The area of the college library is 6110 sq. ft. The library consists of Reference Section, Periodical Section, Network Resource Centre, Processing Section, Book Bank Section, Teachers Reading Section, and Reading Room for Students; more than 60 students can sit and read in the library at a time. The entire library functioning has been automated with Libpro software along with Barcode technology. Two separate computer systems are provided for Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) so students can get quick access to books. The entire library is under CCTV surveillance. Five High Definition CCTV cameras are installed for better supervision and administration of the college Library. The collection is arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification.

Classrooms:

The college has spacious classrooms enough for the student strength. Each classroom is well equipped with smooth green boards, enough fans, and tube lights. The ambiance of classrooms has the fresh presence of blowing air, as they have a good number of windows. Seating arrangement for the students is made in such a way that they feel relaxed and comfortable all the time.

Computer lab:

The college has well equipped and well furnished 3 computer labs with an ample number of computers catering to the IT needs of students and staff. Apart from the labs, the college has Network Resources Centre in the library where students and teachers access internet facilities regularly.

Sports Facilities:

To provide the scope to the hidden sports talent among students, the college has a gymkhana as well as a huge playground. The indoor games facilities like carrom and chess are made available in the gymkhana. The playground is prepared for the sports like Cricket, Kho-Kho, Volley Ball, Football, Long Jump, Running, etc. Students take full advantage of the sports facilities. Good quality sports kits for all sports are always available and renewed from time to time by the gymkhana and sports committee. The college's sports week is organized with full enthusiasm.

Auditorium:

To provide a proper platform for the student's talent in various cultural and co-curricular activities college has constructed a huge auditorium. The basic requirements are provided for every program. The seating capacity of the auditorium is about 300. A proper light system and sound system are made available in the auditorium.

Canteen:

The college canteen provides fresh and healthy food to the employees and students of the college. Proper hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in the canteen. The service of the canteen is available during the working hours of the college. Intercom service is made available in the canteen to get food in place as soon as possible. A variety of food is provided by the canteen at reasonable rates.

Placements

The commitment of a teacher towards the students also includes equipping the students to perform well in the competitive world. The Placement Cell and Career Guidance Cell of Shankar Narayan College aims to ensure that students have the information and skills necessary for an effective job search. Shankar Narayan College has an integrated Career Guidance Cell and Placement Cell. These Cells are sensitized to function all through the year generating placement and career opportunities for the students.

The Cell invites various service providers like IT companies, prominent BPOs, Banks, the Aviation sector, Management Institutes, etc., to conduct recruitment drives, seminars, workshops, and presentations on the jobs and career opportunities available for students. Personality Development workshops on corporate culture, etiquette, and leadership skills are held throughout the year. The Cell disseminates information regarding the availability of jobs. The Cells have a separate notice board for the display of notices regarding competitive examinations, Job Fairs, Education Fairs, and various government and non-government courses.
