Shillong Polytechnic is a major state technical institute in the state of Meghalaya in northeastern India. Located on the outskirts of Shillong and surrounded by hills to the north, it is an ideal place for higher education. The location of North Eastern Hill University, about a mile away, gives the location an added academic advantage. Shillong Polytechnic was established in October 1965 in the composite state of Assam. Originally, the institute operated out of the Mawlai Tribal Research Institute, Gaushala, using its offices as classrooms and laboratories, as well as a temporary workshop training shed. The only major offered at the time was Civil Engineering, and the annual enrollment was 60. In 1968, after a fire that destroyed the Tribal Research Institute, Shillong Polytechnic was moved to rented premises and eventually to its current location. After the partition of Assam in 1972, the institute came under the administrative control of the Meghalaya government.

Shillong Polytechnic Library has so far received about 1,700 (one thousand seven hundred) books for various engineering branches, the cost of which is about 7,85,000 (seven lakh eighty-five thousand). Besides technical books, Shillong Polytechnic Library has many books on mathematics, physics, chemistry, economics, etc. 

Workshops: 

The workshop is the foundation of technical education. Provides practical training for students in various fields of engineering. At our renowned University of applied sciences, the workshop plays an important role in the education, training, and preparation of students for future challenges in the field of technology. The course structure of the École Polytechnique is designed in a 50% practical and 50% theoretical format to meet supervisory-level requirements while employing skilled workers from among the country's technical workforce. 

Computer and Internet Services: 

The institute is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and computer facilities in all departments. The Institute has a sophisticated computer lab with 10Mbps internet access provided by NIC (Shillong) available to students for various academic purposes. In addition, each department has its own computer with an Internet connection in its classroom for lesson preparation, recording, etc. 

Medical Services: 

Shillong Polytechnic employs a full-time pharmacist who is present at the institute during working hours. Smti Patricia Thabah (M. Pharm) is a full-time pharmacist at the Institute. The Institute has a stock of medicines that are distributed to students as needed. Serious medical cases will be referred to the nearest available hospitals and clinics.
