Shri Shikshayatan College was conceived by its founding father, Late Sitaram Seksaria as an extension of Gandhiji’s nationwide Constructive Programme, embracing the emancipation and welfare of Indian Women. It began its journey with the blessings of Pandit Vidhu Shekhar Shastri, the internationally famed scholar of Indian Thought and Culture. Since then, it has traversed a long path keeping pace with the growing needs of a fast-changing society.

Shri Shikshayatan College was founded on 8th July 1955 for girls under affiliation with the University of Calcutta. Established by the Marwaris, a linguistic minority, it is administered and managed by Shikshayatan Foundation – (Formerly known as Marwari Balika Vidyalaya Society -registered under the Societies Registration Act) which runs it solely for educational and not for commercial purposes.

The General Library has internet facilities for the students. In addition, there is a Seminar Library in each Honours department for ready access to books. A Book Bank facility is also available for the underprivileged students of the college. The rapid evolution of information and communication technology in the learning field imposes, supports and stimulates the re-engineering of the library. Our library has changed in the past few years and ever-new ways of creating, storing, organizing, and providing information have evolved. Our college has responded to modern methods of learning by using software and other library resources. The library remains responsible for acquiring or providing access to books, periodicals and other media that meet the educational and informational needs of its users in a stimulating, scholarly environment conducive to academic pursuits.

The college has a hostel facility for out-stationed students as well as faculties. Hostels have round-the-clock security guards and 24x7 CCTV surveillance. Besides hostel provide hygienic food to its residents along with the facility RO purified water and inverter facility during power failures.

The College provides several sports facilities to its students to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional capability. The sports facility consists of both indoor and outdoor activities. The institute has badminton courts as well as basketball courts. Apart from usual sport activity students of this college take part in inter-college badminton tournaments, basketball tournaments, and a host of other sports events.

The College canteen has a variety of food options cooked in a hygienic environment. Besides the food served by the canteen is tasty and available at a reasonable price.

Admission

Admission to the undergraduate, as well as post-graduate programs, is purely based on merit. For admission into postgraduate courses in addition to scores obtained in graduation, 20% weightage is given to candidates based on personal interviews.

Placement Cell

SSC takes the utmost care in training its students for making them job-ready. There is a separate training and placement cell in collaboration with OMNIFIN having a qualified placement officer who collaborates with various companies for industrial training as well as for placements both on-campus and off-campus. Different training activities are arranged for students to improve their soft skills coupled with interview preparation for various jobs, especially Govt. examinations.

The placement team helps the students in every possible way to get internships and placements. Campus placements usually take place for 3rd-year students. Around 60-70 % of students get placed during campus interviews. Workshops are arranged to help students get acquainted with the latest trends in the industry.
