Sikkim University is an upcoming education institution founded in 2006 by the central government. Sikkim University is home to 10 affiliated colleges as well as five schools that are under its supervision. Admissions

Admissions at Sikkim University are either merit-based or are a first-come-first-served basis. Admission to courses such as B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, B.A (Hons) are offered on a first come basis, first come, with the minimum requirements. For courses like MBA, MA, M.Com, MCA is provided by the merit list that is curated by 12th grade and marks at graduation and the test written. The selected students are then followed by an interview for finalizing and concluding their admission.

To be admitted to the respective Ph.D. program degree, students who have passed UGC- JRF, CSIR JRF GATE/ SLET or MPhil are exempted from the exams written.

For admission into B.Sc Geology, a candidate must pass his 12th exam with minimum 45 percent for the stream of science.

To be admitted to B.Sc Music, a student must pass his 12th exam at a minimum of 40 percent.

Admissions to MCA are determined by the merit list, which is created using the marks of 12th along with the academic performance for an individual. Students must score 50percent marks during the class of 12th grade, with mathematics being one of the most important subjects.

Students who wish to pursue MA in Chinese must be able to pass the exam. MA in Chinese must complete a BA in Chinese prior to applying, and with at minimum 50 percent
