Siliguri Government Polytechnic was established in 1995, originally named Women's Polytechnic, Siliguri, to promote women's education in West Bengal through a World Bank project. The college was inaugurated in 1995 by the Information and Culture Minister of West Bengal. The college was temporarily established at Pradhan Nagar, Siliguri. Later in 1998, it was permanently moved from number 1 to number. Dabgram Colony, P.O.: Rabindrasarani, Siliguri-6, Dist-Darjeeling, and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of West Bengal (1998). In 2005, the name of the college was changed to Siliguri State College of Applied Sciences, making it a co-educational institution.
