Established in 1968, Gurudas College of Commerce is affiliated with the University of Kolkata and registered under Sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Law. The name of the college is changed to SIR GURUDAS MAHAVIDYALAYA for this reason Transformation from an academic department to a multi-faculty institution. The college's vision is to provide quality and affordable education to as many students as possible, with the aim of expanding knowledge, empowering students,  and promoting their social development.   Expansion, excess, quality, and efficiency are the four pillars of the institutional vision. Creating a knowledge-based society, developing skills, and building the nation is at the heart of this vision.

Courses Offered

Sir Guruda's Mahavidyalaya courses are offered at different levels e.g.  Bachelor of Arts General, Bachelor of Arts Honors in Politics, Bachelor of Arts Honors in History, Bachelor of Arts Honors in English, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts Honors BSc in Physics, Honors Degree in Mathematics.  On the "Courses" page you will also find a brief overview of the various courses at the university in various disciplines and their specializations.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

To ensure the active participation of students and faculty in improving the teaching-learning process, we introduced INTRODUCTORY LIBRARY ACTIVITIES for freshmen at the beginning of the semester to keep them up to date on services and new initiatives.  We are no less active in sourcing resources from potential sources to enrich our collection, be it on a virtual platform. We are an institutional member of the British Council Library. We have access to online resources within NME-ICT, INFLIBNET-NLIST.   We started automating with KOHA. We want to introduce incremental improvements for users of KOHA, which offers a wide range of uses as an interactive platform. We organize orientation and incentive programs to provide information about the library's services and activities. We conduct outreach and outreach activities to educate faculty and students on social awareness, emotional well-being, soft skills enhancement, community engagement and inclusion, and cultural exchanges, with a focus on environmental protection and awareness.  Various innovative techniques are used to maximize student engagement and increase interest in learning.   Canteen:  There is a cafeteria on the college campus that operates on a small profit basis for students and staff who come from far away. Snacks, tea, meals, etc. They are available at a reasonable price. The college provides premises, furniture, a water purifier,  electricity,  and other infrastructure. There is a seating area suitable for visitors. However, accommodation in the canteen will be in a temporary structure. It is possible and necessary to further improve the equipment in the canteen.

Scholarship 

Aikyashri: 

The West Bengal Aikyashree Minority Scholarship Scheme 2021 addresses the growing educational demands of minorities The WB Aikyashree program offers minority students more opportunities for socio-economic and educational mobility through increased financial support and incentives.   

Student credit card: 

Students in West Bengal do not have to drop out of college for financial reasons, the state government has introduced a new credit card system.   Kanyashri:  Kanyashree is an initiative of the Government of West Bengal to improve the lives and status of girls by providing financial assistance to economically disadvantaged families to prevent families from arranging their daughters' marriages before the age of eighteen due to economic difficulties.  

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship:

Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship Program was completely revamped in  2016 to include more students and significantly increase the number of scholarships.  The program benefits regular 11th, 12th grade, and sub-college students in science/arts/business, engineering, medicine, and technical/professional disciplines. 

Gopa Chakraborty Commemorative Award: 

The  Gopa Chakraborty Memorial Prize is only awarded to the girl who places first in the Bengali section. Gopa Chakraborty ministered at Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya, Sabang, Midnapur from 1972 to 2005, helping students, especially economically disadvantaged girls, to the best of his ability during his ministry and beyond.  She actively participated in the development of rural areas of the region through various activities and always helped, inspired, and motivated girls to continue their studies and women to become independent. To honor him, Dr.  Mausumi Bandyopadhyay this award with his name.
