National Institute of Cooperative Management Gandhinagar, is promoted by Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Ltd. in 1995 to provide management education, training, research, and consultancy support to the corporate world as well as to the co-operatives and rural development organizations in India. It is noteworthy to mention that during one decade only, the institute has achieved several milestones and it has been recognized as one of the eminent institutes of higher education and ranked one among the top five self-financed B-Schools in Gujarat State.

The postgraduate center at NICM has been renamed as Shri Jairambhai Patel Institute of Business Management from 2008-09. NICM Trust is founded by the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Ltd. To make the management of cooperative organizations more professional, it calls for matching the specific but unmet needs of the sector with the formal techniques and skills of the management profession. Linking the two are the ‘leaders and managers’ prepared by SJPI through its two-year full-time MBA program and Management Development Programmes (MDPs). Over the years NICM has provided management training, support, and research facilities to students committed to rural development and in this process, it has brought within its ambit several co-operatives, non-government organizations, government development agencies, international development organizations, and funding agencies.

Hostel life is an integral part of the SJPI’s academic program, and hostel stay is highly insisted though it is not compulsory for all students admitted to the Institute. Hostel life revolves basically around the 3 D’s – Discipline, Duty, and Devotion.

SJPI’s learning system of integral education mirrors to a large extent the tried and tested principles. The philosophy of the SJPI’s hostels is based on the approach of community living wherein each one helps the other. Students hailing from different parts of the State and the country, diverse cultures, and varied economic and financial backgrounds live together and share infrastructure available in a twin-sharing room.

The Hostel is a miniature model of the world outside with people of different habits, temperaments, living styles, languages and outlooks staying together and working. This develops the qualities of understanding and adjustment and sharing and caring amongst the students. It nurtures virtues like adaptability, tolerance, and sacrifice, helping students develop into noble and responsible citizens. The director states, “The medium of instruction in this institute is discipline. Hard work, sincerity, and enthusiasm for learning are the first, second, and third languages.” This gets translated into action in life at the hostel.

The Hostel is a self-sufficient unit housing all the necessities of the students. This enables minimal movement of students outside the hostel premises. To minimize the possible external negative influences, the students are encouraged to read only inspiring literature, listen to elevating music, and view meaningful audiovisuals. In keeping with the traditional culture of the hostel, the students consume only vegetarian and nutritious food prepared by dedicated service-oriented people in the mess.

The SJPI has Central Library housed in a spacious two-storied building. It is spread over a 550 Sq.m. area having a seating capacity for more than 200 students. In addition to the Reading Facilities on Library Premises, the Institute has special Reading cubical rooms spread over 80 Sq.M. for serious reading. The library supports the teaching and research programs of the Institute. The SJPI Library growing rapidly and is expected to expand into an outstanding library within the next few years. The SJPI library has a huge collection of all types of books like Reference collection (Dictionary Encyclopedias yearbook) personality development, philosophy, Healthcare, religion, Competitive Exams books sociology, Agribusiness Economic development, management, and computer science subjects textbooks, reference books, and books of general reading, journals, periodicals, multimedia facilities, Working Papers, students grand projects, company reports, case study collection and Fieldwork reports.

The SJPI has modern twelve lecture halls and two tutorial classrooms with modern audio-visual equipment. The total built-up area of lecture halls/classrooms at SJPI is more than 1100 sq mt. All the classroom/tutorial rooms are equipped with audio-visual systems and CCTV cameras with recording facilities.

The SJPI has a modern seminar room with a capacity of 100 delegates and three conference rooms.

SJPI, Gandhinagar has highly qualified and well-experienced faculties. The institute has 11 faculty members out of which 9 are Ph.D. holders. The faculty members provide educational assistance to the students and guide them in their professional careers. All the faculty members have vast experience in their respective fields.

A wide range of facilities for sports and recreational and extra-curricular activities are provided through the Student Activity Centre. Besides, the institute has infrastructure facilities for sports such as indoor games like basketball, badminton, carrom, etc. Open sports fields provide cricket, volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and also other courts such as football, handball, throw the ball, tennis, kabaddi, and kho-kho. The furnishing of the ultra-modern air-conditioned 350-seat auditorium with an excellent audiovisual projection system is under progress, and shortly it will available to the student community for holding various programs. The institute extends support for extra-curricular activities and organizes several events, festivals, and contests with the initiative of the students. The institute has provided television sets in both the hostel blocks for boys and girls with all educational, informative, and entertainment channels.

Located near the entrance gate of the campus, it has a seating capacity of 50. It serves two types of food – breakfast and snacks and vegetarian meals at subsidized prices. It also provides different types of western food like pizza, burgers, pastries, cool drinks, etc.

Centrally located, it has a seating capacity of 200. It also serves food in the outside area for more than 200 students at a time. It serves three types of food i.e. Gujarati, Punjabi, and South Indian breakfast and snacks and vegetarian meals as per the requirements of the students at subsidized prices.

Admission

Eligibility Criteria

A three-year bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA. The criteria of 50% are applicable for the general category and for the reserved category, it is 45%.

Candidates appearing in the final year of the Bachelor’s Degree can also apply provided they furnish proof of having met the minimum eligibility criteria.

The candidates who fail to meet the minimum eligibility criteria by the time will be asked to withdraw from the program. The tuition fee paid by such candidates will be forfeited.

Placements

SJPI, Gandhinagar has a dedicated Placement Committee that provides 100% placement assistance to its students in getting job opportunities. The college has had a 100% placement record for the last 6 years. The cell conducts various activities to enhance the skills of the students like technical training, aptitude and attitude, etiquette and protocol, soft skills, and many more. It also organizes orientation programs, industrial visits, workshops, seminars and guest lectures, motivation, and leadership expert sessions. The average package is offered at INR 4.5 LPA and the highest package is offered at 10 LPA.
