Sourashtra College, Madurai was established in 1967 with donations from philanthropists of the Sourashtra community. The College is located on Vilachery Main Road, Madurai. It is situated on 28.17 acres of land at the foothills of Pasumalai Hills near Tiruparankundram. The campus provides an excellent atmosphere conducive to the pursuit of higher learning. The objective of the college is to impart higher education to economically poor students, particularly the students belonging to the Sourashtra Community. During the 12 months of 2006, the College become approved with B++ Grade via way of means of the NAAC. Autonomous status was awarded by the University Grants Commission from the academic year 2011-12. Further, the College was reaccredited with B Grade in January 2013.

It offers both Aided and Self-Finance Programmes, including two AICTE-approved programs viz. M.B.A. and M.C.A. It has 16 buses to facilitate girl students of our college. It provides an uninterrupted power supply for the welfare of the student community. In addition, the college management provides hygienic purified drinking water for all students and staff.

Library:

The library is computerized and fulfills the needs of the students in various fields of study. A total number of Books 61,500 collection and 9 Newspapers in various disciplines are available.

There is a large playground open for use by the students and can be used for a variety of games such as cricket, football, athletics, etc.

Auditorium:

The college has a sizable auditorium that can be used for the various culture programs and functions conducted. 

Yoga and Meditation: 

The college conducts training programs on Yoga and Meditation for the students to develop sound health and a sound mind. Prof. K.V. Kannan, Assistant Professor of English is a Registered Yoga Trainer.

Language Lab:

The Department of English has a Language Lab with an AV Lab facility. Teacher: students Interactive method of Teaching: The learning process is followed for the benefit of students in the lab.

Admission

Admission to the courses is based on merit in the qualifying examination except for the MBA & MCA courses, where the admission is based on the MAT/ TANCET score. 

Scholarship

Scholarships of various categories are awarded by State and Central Governments on the basis of the income of the parents as well as the merit of applicants. Details can be had from the office. Notice: Any scholarships or fee remission may be canceled by the College Council at any time for unsatisfactory conduct for the reason that the student does not maintain the standard of work that is expected. 

A list of scholarships and Educational concessions to students are given for the benefit of the students. Details can be had from the College Office.A register showing the awards in each year and an acquittance roll as prescribed for Government Scholarships shall be maintained by the Principal and shall be made available for scrutiny by. the Director of Collegiate Education or by the officers deputed by him, whenever required.
