South Malda College was established in the year 1995 at New 18th Mile, Baishnabnagar in Kaliachak Block III of Malda District of West Bengal in order to serve the Students of the adjoining areas pursuing higher education. The college upholds the ideals of the founder Late A. B. A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury to achieve excellence in higher education, empowerment through knowledge, inclusive growth for socio-economic change, and sustainable development through hard work and sincere efforts by all associated with this rural-based institution.

South Malda College is affiliated with the University of Gour Banga University and is Accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
South Malda College courses are offered at various levels like undergraduate programs Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Political Science, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Economics, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) History, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Geography, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Sociology, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.). Library:
The college has a Library Advisory Committee which considers the development proposals of the library and budget allocations and policy decisions. The finance committee and purchase committee also provides directions for a structured and balanced growth of the library and to provide improved facilities and innovative services. Allocation and utilization of funds and introduction of developmental programs and requirements of the users are addressed and approved by the Library Advisory Committee.
The library has open access. The Library staff are very keen to help both the students and teachers during college hours. In some cases, teachers are also helping the students to access the text and reference books as per their requirements.
Boys Hostel:
The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Girls Hostel:
The college has a girls' hostel facility that provides suitable student accommodation.
Laboratories:
The college has a departmental-based laboratory facility for the students.
Auditorium:
The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.
I.T Infrastructure:
The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.
Sports:
The college has sports facilities for all students.
South Malda College offers BA Hons, B.Com Hons in Accounting, BA, and B.Com (General) courses.
Applications are invited to all the courses online through the South Malda College official website.
Those students who have passed 10+2 in any stream from a recognized board are considered eligible to apply for admission to BA or B.Com. (Hons and General) course.
Admission to each program is given on the basis of the applicant’s merit in the qualifying examination.
