Sree Narayana College, Kollam, is a premier center of higher education in Kerala, India. The college is named after the internationally renowned social reformer, philosopher, and saint, Sree Narayana Guru (1856-1928), and is managed by SN Trusts, Kollam. The college had borrowed Guru’s seminal ideology – “One Caste, One Religion, and One God for man”- as its motto to propel itself in attaining the liberalist and egalitarian motives envisaged by Guru. The College was started by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (S.N.D.P) in 1948 by great visionary and humanist, Sri. R. Sankar, the former chief minister of Kerala. The college is currently guided and mentored by the present Manager of Sree Narayana Colleges, Sri. Vellappally Natesan.

The college had kept up to its glorious past by keeping apace with the recent innovations and requirements in the higher education sector and had qualified itself with the NAAC ‘A+’ Grade (2023), ARIIA ‘A’ Band ranking (2020), ARIIA All India Rank II (2021), besides being enlisted and assisted with various government initiatives and schemes such as RUSA, DST-FIST, and DBT- Star Scheme.

Infrastructure and Facilities:

There is a huge building block behind the main building that is somewhere around 6000 sq. ft. with over 46082 books and journals of acknowledged writers and authors.

Sree Narayana College Faculty:

The College has great teaching and non-teaching staff. The teaching staff is dedicated, hardworking, and highly knowledgeable. More of the percentage of faculty in each department have doctrine in their respective subjects and have a teaching experience of more than three years.

Computer Centre: 

The College has 120+ computers as well as 22 printers with high-speed LAN computing. There are eight mini-computer labs and 2 main ones.

Hostel:

The College has a hostel building for accommodation services for girls. As the hostel can accommodate only 75 students, so the students are allotted the hotel on the basis of merit to provide the studious students with a serene and calm environment for academic progress.

Fitness Centre:

The College is equipped with all the basic necessities for fitness training and also has playfields for various kinds of outdoor games.

Canteen:

The Canteen has both non-vegetarian as well as vegetarian food items at cheap prices.

Capability Enhancement Centre:

It is a center associated with language laboratories, bridge courses, remedial coaching, career counseling, and many more.

Sree Narayana College Scholarships:

There are various kinds of scholarships that are provided by Central and State Governments; the major ones are mentioned below - 

Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship (SJMS): The student must belong to a BPL 1 family and must have scored at least 50% or above in the qualifying exam. This scholarship is for UG as well as PG students and offers INR 10,000 per annum.

Post Metric Scholarship (PMS): This is sanctioned by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. To qualify for this scholarship, the student must belong to a Muslim/Latin-converted Christian community and must score 50% or above in the following examination.

State Merit Scholarship: This is sanctioned by the Department of Collegiate Education Government of Kerala. To qualify for the scholarship, the student must have scored 50% or above in the qualifying examination and the annual income of the family must not exceed 1 Lac.

Mission

The mission of the college draws itself from the visionary zeal imparted by Sree Narayana Guru and the farsighted vision of the founder manager, Sri. R Sankar. The establishment of the college in 1948 had evolved out of the social reformative movement led by Sree Narayana Guru, who believed that education can liberate human beings from the shackles of social inequalities and insecurities. The college derives its missionary zeal from the universally inspiring thoughts of Guru.
