The SGGS Khalsa College, Hoshiarpur, Punjab has been long recognized as the premier Post Graduate, Multi Faculty, and co-educational college in the relatively backward district of Hoshiarpur. The college started its journey of excellence even before the historic partition of India into India and Pakistan in the year 1946. The philanthropic self of Sant Baba Hari Singh Ji Kaharpuri conceived the idea of making an educational institution that serves the need for quality education in the rural and backward areas of its existence.

It was an effort to bring the general mass of Punjab into the classroom as not many, at that time, could afford to go to colleges in the city. The Sikh Educational Council, the bearer of this reputable and historic institution strives with the zeal of providing higher education to the boys and girls in general and particularly belonging to the rural, backward, and Kandi areas.

library

Sant Hari Singh Memorial Library of the College was established in 1946. With the consonance of the vision and realistic dream of the founder President Sant Baba Hari Singh ji, the terminus of the college to reach excellence and impart quality education to the socially economically, and educationally backward people of this drastically deprived and backward regular –Kandi area.

Our College library has a rich collection of books over 49000+ books, journals (including back volumes of journals), magazines, newspapers, CD-ROMS, and rare books. The Rare Books Section contains special writings and publications and rare Urdu and Punjabi books. The Library also has a book bank facility for needy students.

The library today provides comprehensive access to text and reference books, journals, magazines, data analysis software, and much more. This rich collection covers diverse disciplines of Information Technology, Health Sciences and Science, Humanities, and related fields. The two-storied library building has an open shelf system with seating arrangements for students and staff. The books have been arranged according to the DDC-23rd edition

hostels

There are three hostels attached to the college, one exclusively for the boys. On account of increasing demand, two new Girl Hostels have been constructed at a cost of about Rs. One Crore with ultra-modern facilities and 24-hour electricity supply.

canteen

The College has recently constructed a magnificent Duplex building to house a well furnished hygienically maintained co-operative mess and canteen. Separate sitting arrangement for boys, girls, and respected staff members has been made.

Dispensary

The College has its own Health Centre and ambulance and a qualified Medical Officer is available to the students. They are advised to call the college clinic whenever indisposed/ill.

Bus Facility For Girls Students

The College stands committed in its resolve to the spread of female education. Keeping in line with this commitment, the College offers its own bus service to help girls from the surrounding areas reach the college and go back to their homes safely, securely, and comfortably. Girl students desirous of availing of this facility are advised to contact the college office.

Convention hall

The hall stands as an inspiring edifice reminding all and sundry of the great contribution of the Gadhar Movement in the freedom struggle of India. Born in 1892, Baba Harjap Singh joined the Gadhar Party in the prime of his youth while he was in the USA. In 1925, as decided by the party, he left for India to join the freedom struggle, but was refused the passport. He walked some 3000 miles to reach India through Europe and Russia and was detained numerous times along the way until he reached India in 1930. Here, the British Government took him as a security prisoner till 1947. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the freedom struggle, Pandit Nehru met him during his house arrest in Mahilpur in 1936.

While under house arrest, the people of the area honored him by electing him MLA to the Lahore Legislative Assembly. Glorious was his journey and so was his devotion. His dream “India has not yet achieved what I dreamt of, a free India with equality, secularism and a better life for everyone” still serves as a beacon for unrelenting & unflinching toil for a better and prosperous nation.

Scholarship

Students covered under the following categories are eligible to apply for the above said scholarships:

1. Students belonging to the economically weaker section

2. A student who has lost his/her father (earning member of the family)

3. Students whose mother is a divorcee, and is not getting any supporting allowance from the husband.

4. Students whose families are affected by natural disasters.

5. Students who are differently abled.

6. Students recommended by the Managing Trustee of Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust (Regd.)
