When, in the year 1904, one Shri Somasundara Sastry, a visionary, founded a school for girls in Kanchipuram little would he have realized that one day his school, like the banyan tree, would send new educational roots from its branches so that they would develop into strong trunks. It was, in a way, in keeping with the character of the town, Kanchipuram, that a school was founded here. But to found a school for girls in 1904, now, in retrospect, seems an act of courage, an act, animated by the hope that favored intellect over established prejudices and an act which also embellished the truth in Winston Churchill’s statement that a man is as big as his decisions. History, as Carlyle said, is the essence of innumerable biographies, and the history of the growth of the original SSKV School from a single entity to five schools and a college today is actually the biographies of several people who strove to sustain the small beginning of 1904.
The stability of public favor has been prevailing upon the SSKV brand since the beginning because successive office bearers of the Conjeevaram Hindu Educational Society (under whose aegis all the institutions are run) have been as committed as they have been assiduous in their task of institution building. Of these, mention may be made of Shri C R Pattabhi Raman, the son of Sir Sri C P Ramaswami Aiyar, the illustrious Dewan of the erstwhile princely State of Travancore. Mr. A. R. Jagannathan the son-in-law of Shri C R Pattabhi Raman and Dr. Vengudi Ramamurthy. It is only proper that now the President of the Governing Body is Dr. Nanditha Krishna, the great-granddaughter of Sir Sri C P Ramaswami Aiyar and who is a well-known personality in Chennai. Under her guidance combined with the industry of Dr. C.K. Raman, the Secretary, and the benign influence of Mrs. Umadevi, Joint Secretary, a giant step was taken in 2007 when a College exclusively for women was founded thereby creating an important signpost in history of SSKV institutions.

Virtual Labs :
Good lab facilities and updated lab experiments are critical for any engineering college. The paucity of lab facilities often makes it difficult to conduct experiments. Also, good teachers are always a scarce resource. The Virtual Labs project addresses this issue of lack of good lab facilities, as well as trained teachers, by providing remote access to simulation-based Labs in various disciplines of science and engineering. Yet another objective is to arouse the curiosity of the students and permit them to learn at their own pace. This student-centric approach facilitates the absorption of basic and advanced concepts through simulation-based experimentation.
Library:
What a college thinks of its library defines what the college thinks of education. How nice would it be if we were all Prosperos so that we could view our library as our dukedom? Our library with a present strength of 9000 books is slowly growing. What is important is not how many books a library has but how many books are in circulation and how many books are reread by students. Then, the number of books must be seen against the total complement of students in the college. We are 1100 students and of course, we need to increase the number of books in the library. But our priority is to make students read and today more than in the Renaissance context reading makes a woman for knowledge is money. We have been able to bring our students around to the importance of reading. And our vision of making 10,000 books in the library will soon be realized.
Transport
The college provides very comfortable transportation services for the students to reach the college safely. The routes are specified by the bus numbers.
Sports:
Juvenal, the Roman poet’s single line, “ Mens Sana in corpore Sano” (A sound mind is a sound body) is a popular aphorism that forms the motto of several educational and military institutions the world over. The value of the physique all educational institutions recognize and hence sports is an integral part of higher education. We too set a premium on sports and even though we are a small college we are not wanting in our show of enthusiasm for sports. Our physical director, Ms. Komala, was chosen by the University of Madras to accompany its hand Bell Team for a tournament in Guntur in January 2010 and manager of the University’s cricket team for an all-India University competition held in December 2010 in Gwalior. These are no mean achievements for a small college like ours. She has successfully passed the state-level referee examination in athletics.
The aim of the College is to offer women education that will transform them into liberal-minded human beings who shall remain at the cutting edge of knowledge; who shall endeavor to free their minds of bigotry and obstinacy; who shall develop a disinterested attitude where emotions are involved; who shall be able to distinguish between right and wrong without taking recourse to either of the two extremes of relationism and absolutism and who, in all these endeavors, shall not forget the ab
Our first task in terms of small goals is to strengthen the academic competence of our faculty. They are young and the college is just seven years old. We are also aware that we need to develop in students' knowledge and understanding; cognitive, transferable, and practical skills. What is, perhaps, more important, is the creation of proper context and ambiance for learning where meaningful education will take place. Therefore, our catchword is “freedom.”
