During the 1980’s the Catholic community in and around Vasai felt the need of opening an institution of higher learning. Since 1889 the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady Of Grace, Papdy- Bassein has been involved to cater to the educational needs of the Catholic community. This felt need saw the public of Vasai create a college in the 1970s, but that was not enough to meet the emerging needs for higher education. In 1975 our college trust (Our Lady of Grace) opened the Thomas Baptista Junior College and in 1984 the St. Gonsalo Garcia College of Arts and Commerce saw the light of existence. The foundation stone for the institution of higher education and excellence was laid by Pope John Paul II on 9th Feb 1986. Since 1984 the senior college had begun functioning at the premises of the Thomas Baptista Junior College. It was only in 1996 that the entire college administration and teaching shifted to the present campus.

The primary goals of the computer labs are to provide assistance to students that will enhance their chances of succeeding in technology-based classroom assignments and to provide access to equipment that will support the needs of instruction where we celebrate life-long learning. The computer labs support the curriculum of the college and the assignments of the instructors. We encourage our students to use these facilities with the help and guidance of our instructors. The college has two Computer Labs, one for the Commerce faculty and the other for IT.

St. Gonzalo Garcia Alumni Association has been founded with the objective of inculcating a close fellowship among the former students of the college through frequent interactions. The Alumni of the college are well placed in different parts of the world in corporate life, academics, as entrepreneurs, stage artists, and in the armed forces to mention a few of them. The Alumni association offers an opportunity to connect with their past, the present, and also the future growth of the institution.

We are enormously proud of our heritage and traditions but are certainly not constrained by them. Badminton is a very popular sport in India, to give the sport the recognition and attention it deserves, our college campus contains the Badminton Court which caters to the sportive group of young men and women preparing them for the Inter-class tournaments, the University and Zonal sports. College Gymkhana is a place with a refreshing face. College Gymkhana offers opportunities to all College students to play indoor and outdoor games. Students indulge in various Indoor games like Carrom, Chess, and Table Tennis to pleasantly pass their free time and also gain some professional skills in the respective games. There are volleyball, badminton, and basketball courts on the campus. Students are coached to compete at intercollegiate, University, and Zonal levels.

College Canteen is a large spacious area, with a variety of refreshments and mouth-watering dishes which suit the tastes of both the students and the staff. It is a place on the campus not only for refreshment but also for student bonding, discussions, and even for working on assignments and projects. It is established to help students and staff get a quick cup of tea or a snack during the intervals on working days and also to cater to the needs of the college when fests and programs are organized.
