St Ignatius College of Education, Tirunelveli Tamil Nadu was established in the year 1957 as Private (Autonomous) Educational Institute to provide higher education to build a career in the field of Humanities and Teaching. St. Ignatius Training College for Women had its beginning in the upper block of St.Ignatius’ Convent High School with hope for and views of gaining academic and moral support from the model school. The college was officially inaugurated on 29th July 1957 after getting affiliation from Madras University. Sr. Stephane was the founder Principal to officiate the human machinery of five faculty members and 37 students, having their hopes and mission attuned to the clarion call of the Foundress for the progress in the educational pilgrimages, leaving behind her imprints on the present structure of the college. Sports
St. Ignatius College of Education provides sports facilities for playing cricket, football, track and field, volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi. Separate playgrounds are available there on the campus for outdoor games.

Auditorium
St. Ignatius College of Education has an auditorium or seminar hall complex equipped with infrastructural facilities like an audiovisual hall, multimedia halls, Periyar Kalaiarangam, and a Zoology department seminar hall.
St. Ignatius College of Education has a training and placement cell. SICE Tiruchirappalli placement cell provides placement assistance to final-year students. SICE Tiruchirappalli students are provided training on their personality development through group discussions, mock interviews, and industrial interface.
Eligibility for admission to the course
A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the course leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Education provided, she fulfills the following conditions:
The candidate should have passed the UG Degree Examination in the 10+2+3 stream, with the same main subject in part III, for which she is seeking admission to B.Ed Programme. Bachelors in Engineering (or) technology with specialization in Mathematics and Science with 55% of marks or any other qualifications equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to the program.
Candidates who have taken more than one main subject in part III (Double/Triple Major) of the Graduation, have to choose only one of the main subjects and apply for that optional only.
The admission criteria however shall be as per the norms prescribed by the University or the State Government.
