A tiny and unassuming Anglo-vernacular school built up by the Church Missionary Society at a leased working spot in Palayamkottai in 1844 was the minor seed from which developed St. John’s College, now a recognized foundation in the scholastic field. This school, first known as the English school and after that as the CMS School, was moved to Vannarpet in 1878, when it turned into the CM school and FA, i.e., Fellow of Arts, a two-year intermediate course.

Sports:
Sports and Games are an integral part of a student’s life. Participation in sports is necessary because it brings physical and mental fitness to a person to have healthy socialization. It increases self-esteem and to have peace and comfort in the mind of a student. Playing and excelling in sports and games also teaches an individual the importance of hard work, teamwork, perseverance, learning from failure, building confidence, and the importance of the utilization of opportunities. It serves as an icebreaker for new students and helps in faster assimilation. As education is important to get fame and a name, in the same way, to get a sound body and mind everyone should involve in some type of sports activity. Sports studies are vital aspects of an individual’s life that must be balanced to gain maximum output.
Library:
The History of SJC Library begins with its origin in 1878. The SJC Library for the most part takes into account the requirements of the students and staff of the College. The Library was significantly expanded by the liberal blessing from Bishop Western’s Library in 1939. Another enhancement was made in 1946. Daniel Thomas, a graduate class of SJC, exhibited more than one thousand significant books from his own accumulation to the library. Hostel:
St.Paul’s Hall has crossed 50 years. It is a confluence of UG & PG Students from St. John’s College. There are 135 Rooms in the hostel which include the Sub warden’s room, TV room, and store room. All the rooms are self-contained. The general ability of the men’s hostel is 123 Students. At Gift, there are eighty college students withinside the hostel. There is a RO Plant for water purification in the hostel. The hostel has one color TV for recreation. The hostel is also provided with two UPS. Mess is attached (vegetarian & nonvegetarian) within the men’s hostel. And it is on dividing system. The hostel has provisions for indoor games like Chess and Carom and outdoor games like Cricket and Volley Ball.
Canteen:
St. John’s College has a Spacious Canteen. The canteen serves refreshments, breakfast, and Lunch at affordable prices. It is of immense help for the day scholars who come from long distances. Students can visit the canteen during their free hours to refresh themselves. Canteen remains open on all working days.
