St. Joseph’s College for Women was conceived with the view to use education as a tool to bring about social development. Now, it stands tall in the heartland of Alappuzha with the legacy of having empowered young women for the past 68 years. From 142 students and 14 teachers during its inception in 1954 to 1275 students in 10 graduate and 4 post-graduate programs, 66 teaching staff including permanent faculty and guest faculty, and 23 non-teaching staff, we have come a long way. The path paved by the Canossian sisters, with its earthwork done by our patrons, benefactors, well-wishers, and citizens of Alappuzha, is extended by the staff and students who tread through it every day.

Girls Hostel:

The college hostel provides accommodation to about 150 students in the girls' hostel. Those seeking admission to the college hostel shall submit the application in the prescribed application form available at the hostel office to the warden at the time of admission. Admission to the hostel is made only after admission to the college. Only on the remittance of fees and deposits prescribed will a student be considered and admitted to the hostel.

Cafeteria:

The college has a canteen which is meant only for the bona fide students of this college. Our college canteen is blessed with a family atmosphere, with a variety of delicacies, touched by a homemade flavor, cooked to perfection, and served with great courtesy.

I.T Infrastructure:

The college has two well-equipped computer labs with the latest model computers and software packages for academic activities as well as for conducting course and training programs. It is a Cyber center also. Teachers and students of this college can avail themselves of the internet and e-mail facilities here. Computer literacy programs for staff and students and various IT courses, including certificate courses in DCA, are offered. It is glared in such a manner that it can meet the new developments in the information world.  

Laboratories:

The College has Laboratories that play a significant role in building an enabling atmosphere to equip students to understand and explore the concepts practically. The science students get an opportunity to conduct practical experiments under the guidance of well-qualified faculty members. It is in these laboratories that the students acquire a sound theoretical and practical knowledge that will equip them to identify, formulate, and solve real-world technical problems. 

Auditorium:

The college has an auditorium with the capacity to seat 1000 people at a time and has reached its Diamond Jubilee Year. With all the modern amenities and fine acoustics, it is a hub of all the academic and extracurricular programs.

Library:

The college has a library that acts as a strong pillar supporting and catering to the wide and challenging requirements of the students and teaching community. The library is computerized using full-featured open-source ILS KOHA and is well equipped with around 46000 books and 75 periodicals spread over almost all disciplines. The library catalog can be accessed online through WEB OPAC. The library also has a network center for internet search and digital library access equipped with computers with an internet facility of bandwidth of 10mbps provided as part of NMEICT. The library also maintains a special collection of ‘works by Canossian Sisters of Charity’, ‘Walk With a Scholar, and ‘Scholar Support Program’. The library participates in a resource-sharing network by subscribing to the N-LIST database provided by UGC- INFLIBNET since 2010. The “Annual Best User” award is given to the best outgoing student every year who makes maximum use of the library resources.

Faculty: 

The atmosphere of our college is good. but the management is a little bit strict. Our teachers are friendly with students and they are giving wide opportunity for us for skill development. They also provide assistance to backward students.

Placement: 

There is a placement cell in the college. But that is not very active. It provides opportunities but is not acceptable for the students. It gives opportunity only to very few students. and more students are not participating in placement programs due to the cost of entering them.
