St. Joseph’s College Pilathara was established in 2005 by the Diocese of Kannur with the vision of providing quality education to the aspiring youth of educationally progressing northern Kerala in the context of the New Education Policy. The inception of St. Joseph’s College in 2005 with two courses B.Com and BSW was necessitated by the huge demand for higher education which could not be sufficiently met by the few existing institutions and was legitimatized by the consequent change in national policy to start colleges with un-aided status at the turn of the last century.

NSS:

National Service Scheme Unit NO: 57 of St. Joseph's College, Pilathara is heralding its glorious 12th year with outstanding performance in social services for the educational development of the students. The unit has been able to stand apart from the other NSS units of Kannur University because of its unique style of planning and implementing various programs rooted in integrity and unity.

Sports: 

St. Joseph’s College strives to mark its presence has made in the field of sports. It is memorable that Mr. Sahal Abdul Samad, the leading National player of the Indian Football team began his career in the game at St. Joseph's College. Teams of the College have been champions and finalists in University Zonal Football and Cricket championships in the bygone years. Every year college hosts university sports championships. The College conducts Sports meetings every year. Teachers also become part of it to encourage students.

FineArts:

St. Joseph’s College always is at the forefront of promoting Fine. The College Union supported by Management conducts Fine Arts Day every year and also trains students to compete in the University Kalolsavam. College was placed in 15th position scoring 56 points in a competition participated by more than 100 colleges at Kannur University.

Seminars and Fests: 

Every dept. of St. Joseph’s College conducts a mega event in the form of national Seminars and Fests. Dept of Commerce conducts Esperanza management fest and national seminars on alternative years. Dept. of Social Work conducts the Avancer National seminar series every year. Dept. of Computer Application conducts Concurso IT fest every year. Dept. of English comes up with Mindscape literary fest. Dept. of Business Administration is conducting Entreport an entrepreneurial meet.

Library:

The very heart of every educational institution is the library which is the source and icon of knowledge. St. Joseph’s College has got a big beautiful and spacious library. The library has got separate sections for each department and subject. The college has got a number of magazines, monthlies, weeklies, newsletters, etc to quench the thirst for knowledge. Books are kept neatly and in an orderly manner on shelves. The entry to the library is regulated and marked by a digital entry system. The library is automated with Koha software which makes book searches easy and convenient.

CANTEEN:

St. Joseph’s College has got a nice canteen on the college premises itself. Students are ensured to get safe and tasty food in the canteen. Lunch and tea/coffee and snacks are available at stipulated timings. The college intends to build a much more spacious canteen in the near future.

HOSTEL FACILITY:

The hostel is available for girls at St. Mary’s women’s hostel run by DSS sisters of Santhinilayam Convent Pilathara. The hostel is at a distance of just 5 minutes walk on NH 17 towards Payyanur. Rooms for boys are also available in and around Pilathara.

COMPUTER LAB:

St. Joseph’s College has got well- equipped computer lab having a sufficient number of computer systems. The computer lab situates on the ground floor of the Rev. Fr. Peter Kaironi block of the college. The computer lab is updated and maintained well in collaboration with Sysnet Computers Kannur, a private firm. The computer lab is profusely used by the students for their academic hours as well as practical sessions. The college has generously opened the doors of the computer labs to become a center of examinations of distance education at Kannur University.

PLACEMENT

The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job opportunities for Under Graduates and Post Graduates passing out from college by keeping in touch with reputed firms and industrial establishments. The Placement Cell is in operation in the college. Cell prepares the stakeholders for the job market familiarizing them to the career aspects and prospects and providing them with basic training in the skills needed.
