St Joseph's University is in Bengaluru, the tech hub of India. The university was started in 1882 by French missionaries. In 1937, the Jesuits took over running the college. First, the college was connected to the University of Madras. Later, it joined the Mysore and Bangalore universities. In 1986, St Joseph's became the first affiliated college in Karnataka to offer postgraduate programs. In 1988, it became the first college in Karnataka to get a Research Center. In 2005, it was one of five colleges in Karnataka to get academic freedom. In 2021, the Karnataka government made St Joseph's a full-fledged university.
