A commendable milestone in the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy in India is the year 1958 when they started St. Joseph’s College exclusively for women, the first of its kind in Visakhapatnam.
The college, affiliated with Andhra University, was founded on 2nd July 1958, with six members of teaching staff and 28 students in the Pre-University course. The college was established to serve the interests of young women in Visakhapatnam and continues to do so without thinking of commercial gains. At the time, the focus was on teaching science at home, but the college has since done so. then diversified and developed to cater to the changing needs and aspirations of young women.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) are recognised.

Residential Accommodation
The Hostel is attached to St.Joseph's College for Women (Autonomous) and is intended to accommodate female students from the Listed College parents who reside outside the city limits and are in great need of residence facilities within the college.
The Hostel is under the direct management of the College authorities.
The Library
St.Joseph College Library is one of the oldest private governments. helped Visakhapatnam Autonomous University Library. It covers an area of ??3806 square feet. The library is located in a separate two-storey building with a mezzanine located very close to the main block. The Library is equipped with a fire alarm, an entrance with a tripod turnstile, and video surveillance.
The collection includes textbooks and reference books, newspapers, magazines, CDs/DVDs, and back volumes in a wide range of subjects such as English literature, pure sciences, arts, history and social sciences, languages, general subjects, etc. The library has a large air-conditioned reading room and a consultation section that can accommodate more than a hundred users at all times.
Canteen
It provides good quality fresh Snacks, cool drinks, coffee, tea, and other food items in a hygienic, healthy way which suits the pockets of the student. It is speckless and maintained very well.
