St. Philomena's College, established on 9 October 1946, was the first 'First Grade College' in Mysore, India. It was opened by His Highness, Maharaja of Mysore. Its motto "Caritas In Scientia" was chosen by The Pope.

A Bishop’s dream and a Maharaja’s munificence culminated in the establishment of St. Philomena’s College on October 9, 1946. His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr. Rene Feuga, the first Bishop of Mysore vacated his mansion to make room for classes. The Wodeyars, of the Mysore Royal family, encouraged the Diocese in its maiden venture into higher education.

Courses Offered

St. Philomena’s College courses are offered at various levels like Undergraduate Degrees i.e BBA, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Physics, Bachelor of Arts (BA) Criminology, etc., Postgraduate Degree i.e Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Psychology, Master of Arts (MA) Economics, Master of Science (M.Sc.) Facilities and Infrastructure

Bank & ATM
There are two ATM counters one from Syndicate Bank and another from South India bank on the campus, which provide basic banking facilities to the students and staff.

Gym
Whether you are passionate about your physique or not, you can benefit from the gym on campus. The gym contains state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including a treadmill, CV machines, fixed machines, free weights, and a multi-gym. Students as well as the faculty can make use of the facilities of the gym. For beginners, training is given in the use of equipment by an expert instructor. The department of Physical Education oversees the functioning of the Gymnasium.

Residential Accommodations

The college has separate hostels for girls and boys and it also has some private accommodations run by the college where students can stay. All the facilities are provided to the students like Dining facilities, common room, TV rooms, ATM center, etc.

Library

At present the library has in its Stock more than 42,000 books, 850 back volumes, and 250 Educational CDs/DVDs, covering a wide variety of subjects. The Library subscribes to 12 Newspapers, 90 Journals/Periodicals 25 arts, 33 Science, 19 Commerce and Management, and 03 International and 13 Magazines.

Labs
The institute has well-equipped laboratories so that students can learn the proper application of their subjects.

Sports Facilities
The college has its playground and proper equipment for sports activities.

Medical Facilities

Day Care-Child care facility is available to the teaching and non-teaching staff and student-parents at affordable cost. Lack of convenient child care usually prevents many student-parents from getting their degree. Childcare facilities allow parents to have peace of mind and to concentrate hassle-free on their academic activities. A campus-based day-care center is indeed a boon to the faculty and the student-parents to alleviate their stress of caring for their kids and the college has the commitment to support the staff and students to take special care of their children.

Canteen

The College Canteen has been functioning efficiently since its inception. The objective of it is to provide a wide range of food items with proper sanitary conditions by assuring food safety and quality and a kiosk for packaged foods. The canteen also provides efficient catering service for college functions. It is run by an experienced person in catering management with an agile team. The College management is fully committed to keeping the quality of the canteen for the utmost benefit of all the concerned including the staff and the students. The students, who come to college from far-flung places, are happy to satiate their hunger and thirst. The canteen and the surroundings are kept neat and tidy in the plastic-free and eco-friendly campus. It is a veritable place for the gourmands.

The college offers students scholarships on the basis of merit and background. Meritorious students who have a humble financial background or belong to oppressed minority groups receive scholarships from the college administration based on their marks in the 10+2 examination.

Placements

The college has a dedicated placement cell for different placement activities, every year companies like Wipro, and Infosys visit the campus for hiring. The median package received by the students here is 2.4 LPA.
