The St. Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, was active in education worldwide from its inception. In India alone, Jesuits are now responsible for several colleges, management institutes, teacher training institutes, technical institutes, social institutes, scientific and historical research centers, centers for interreligious dialogue, secondary, secondary, and elementary schools, and hundreds of centers for non-formal education. Although the college was founded primarily for the Christian formation of teachers of deserving students, especially those belonging to the Catholic community, it also accepts other students without distinction of caste or creed. As a Catholic university, however, its goals and activities are shaped by a strong sense of God, which alone gives meaning to life. The different religious beliefs of the students are fully respected. Since its inception, the college has grown with a clear focus on quality and excellence.

St. Xavier's College of Education is a co-educational institution with permanent recognition from the government of Bihar, permanent affiliation from Aryabhatta Knowledge University & permanent recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' grade, and recognition from UGC under 2(f) 12B of UGC act 1956.

The St. Xavier College of Education (Standalone) Library is evolving into a knowledge resource center primarily serving the information access needs of students, faculty, and researchers. Our library is housed in a 2452 m2 room with good infrastructure and a good atmosphere. Major newspapers, magazines, and journals have regular subscriptions, making the library a rich source of knowledge. All routine library distribution and acquisition tasks were computerized using SOUL 2.0 integrated library management software. The college also has access to electronic resources such as INFLIBNET, a high-quality collection of curriculum-based e-books using the open-source e-book software suite CALIBER Cross-Platform. Feedback from library users shows that they still have good memories of using this wealth of knowledge over the last few decades.
