Established in 1981, the State Institute of Education at Chandigarh was established to encourage students to reach the pinnacle of higher education and to instill in them a determination to excel in their chosen fields with the best knowledge and skills.  The overall vision is to broaden teachers' horizons and expose them to new teaching theories and techniques to support their professional development. Junior Basic Training (JBT) was offered from 1981 to 1985, later revived and introduced in 1995 as Elementary Teacher Training (ETT). The course was changed back to D.El.Ed elementary school graduation in 2010.
