The seed for the establishment and growth of TANUVAS was sown as early as 1876, when the Madras Veterinary College was started as an Agricultural School in Chennai to offer diploma and certificate course in the field of veterinary and animal sciences.
The roots and development of Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University were established in 1876 when the Madras Veterinary College was founded to serve as an Agricultural School in Chennai to provide diploma and certificate programs in animal and veterinary sciences.
The institution became a college status of an institution by 1903 (01.10.1903) when it started activities from Dobbin Hall located in Chennai and was able to enroll 20 students in a three-year diploma program called the GMVC (Graduate of Madras Veterinary College). It also has two branches in Namakkal as well as Thoothukkudi. Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), which is recognized through the University Grants Commission of India is a minor co-educational Indian college of higher learning.
The Tamil Nadu veterinary & animal sciences university has been approved by UGC.

Hostel

They also host diverse seminars, talks, and lectures to enhance the knowledge of students as well as to teach the skills they need to succeed in the market. The college organizes each year campus placements for students who have graduated. Companies from various fields visit the campus of the college to offer job opportunities to students. The typical package differs according to different businesses and students are offered jobs in both private and public sectors.
TANUVAS offers scholarships to students in order to make their educational costs more affordable for students. The scholarships are awarded based on the income of the family member and merit, as well as category, etc. Institute also offers bank loan facilities for its students.
Candidates who are shortlisted for the UG courses are made by assessing their merit from their most recent qualifying exam, followed by the checking of their documents during the counseling.
The selection of applicants for PG courses like Ph.D. as well as M.Phil courses is determined by the CET entrance test administered by the University together with counseling.
For the PG Diploma program, the shortlisting of applicants is made by merit or the entrance test.
