Established in the year 1948, The Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya is one of the esteemed universities that is affiliated to the Vidyasagar group of universities. Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya is situated in Tamluk in the West Bengal state of India. It is accredited by AICTE and it is affiliated to the University of Calcutta, Kolkata. The College offers 27 courses across 4 streams namely Arts, Commerce, Education, and Science across 6 degrees like BA, BSc, B.Com, B.Ed, MA and M.Sc.
Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya, popularly called and known as Tamluk College & is situated in the Head Quarters of Purba Medinipur district, namely Tamluk, historically known as Tamralipta which can truly boast of a rich heritage of traditional cultural and intellectual excellence, has been playing a significant role in disseminating higher education among the students mostly coming from illiterate, semi-literate, rural, agriculture-based and even first–generation-learner sections of the community ever since its foundation on an auspicious day in 1948 by the dedicated, sincere and concerted efforts of a number of educationists, patriots and enthusiastic people from all walks of life, the leading role of which was taken by widely respected Late Srutinath Chakraborty.

Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya offers Degree Courses Bachelor of Education [B.Ed], Bachelor of Arts- BA (Hons. & General), Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons. & General} Bachelor of Commerce [B.Com] (Accountancy), B.Ed. in Bengali, History, Sanskrit, MA, M.Sc in Zoology.
Library
Ours is a rich library stocked with more than 29,500 books, 12 journals, 16 periodicals, and a large no. of CDs and DVDs. Modern devices of classification, cataloging, and indexing have been adopted. The students can avail of the Reading, Borrowing, and Book-Bank facilities. The library is located on the 1St floor of the administrative building and Reading Room is attached to the library. The library remains open on all working days except on Sundays and Holidays. Even during recess the students and the teachers can avail the library facilities. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) searching, Internet surfing, and E-mail facilities are also provided to the readers through a broadband connection.
Laboratories
The college has adequate laboratory facilities for all Lab-based subjects (both Honours and General) which provide adequate and intensive practical coaching to the students of the Science section. Moreover, the Lab-based departments are equipped with computer and internet facilities.
Museum
Tamluk being a place of historical interest, the college feels it obligatory to have a museum of its own. The college museum, though small, possesses some valuable antiquities, relics, and archaeological finds.
Hostel
The College has three hostels, one for boys, and the other two are for girls students. They are well governed by the teacher and superintendents. The admission is made strictly on the basis of distance from the student’s residence. Priorities are given to S.C., S.T., and handicapped students. The boys’ hostel has an intake capacity of 60 students and the two girls’ hostel can afford 42 seats. No married student is allowed to stay in a hostel. Any unsuccessful candidate in any university examination will be given one more chance to overstay in the hostel. The rules and regulations laid by the Hostel Committee are obligatory for the inmates of the hostel.
Canteen
There is a Cheap Canteen in the college that caters food to the students at a subsidized rate.
Staff Quarters
The College has eight full-fledged quarters for the staff of the College including Teaching and Non-teaching.
Cycle Stand
There is a large cycle stand.
Auditorium
The College has a large Auditorium to organize seminar and other cultural program.
Gymnasium
A big hall is used as Gymnasium where various modern equipments for indoor physical training are available. Boys’ and Girls’ Common Rooms: Two separate common rooms with necessary facilities for the male and female students of the college are available.
