It is Salem Polytechnic College is a top institution that has established itself as a centre of the college both academic and extracurricular activities. It was established by the chief minister of Tamilnadu Bharat Ratna Dr.M.G.Ramachandran in 1984. It is managed by the Sengunthar Educational Trust. Its patrons include Sri A. Sankara Mudaliar, Sri P.Ramasamy Mudaliar and Sri K.R.Manicka Mudaliar, Sri S.P.Sambandam Mudaliar and Sri A.Duraisamy Mudaliar, the patrons of this school who are believe that it should "Impart sound technical education irrespective of caste, creed or colour".

The Training and Placement Cell collaborates with well-known organizations to arrange campus interviews for the selection of students who are in their final year. It works to send the bulk of students to in-plant training so that they can improve their technical skills and to gain experience in the world of work. A variety of activities are provided to students who are in their final year in order to help them pass competitive exams. The placement season is a period that runs the whole year, beginning with the final week of July until March. Pre-placement talks are also held on this basis as per mutual preferences.
