The origin of the Vidyapeeth dates back to pre-independence period – 1921 when immediately after the demise of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, his follower Mahatma Gandhi mooted the idea of establishing a university in his memory. The Vidyapeeth was awarded the status of 'Deemed to be University' by Govt. of India in 1987 in recognition of its contribution in the field of education.
Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth is located at Pune, Maharashtra, India. It also entered the field of education in 2006 following advice of Mahatma Gandhi. The UGC has declared Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth an institute of higher education. Therefore, the institution ensures that it makes ever-changing modifications to its evaluation of teaching and learning standards.
