The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore. In 1920 it was affiliated to Madras University. TNAU assumed full responsibilities of Agricultural Education and Research and supported the State Agricultural Department by delivering research products. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, was the only Institute for Agricultural Education for the whole of South India.

TNAUACARI Infrastructure and Facilities
All the TNAU colleges have well-constructed buildings accommodating and meeting all administrative and teaching needs with all the basic amenities like furniture, surplus water supply, and uninterrupted electricity. In addition, big meeting halls, auditoriums, and farmlands are also available. To get hands-on experience with the latest technologies, all the colleges have very good infrastructure with advanced laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, etc. All colleges are now equipped with the latest computer products and internet connectivity. Additional resources such as printers, and wireless internet connectivity (wi-fi zones) for use in laptops are also provided by the colleges. Smart classrooms have equipment such as laptops, cameras, printers, projectors, etc., and are readily accessible to students.
The TNAU Library System comprises a University Library and 10 constitutional college libraries that collectively support the teaching, research, and extension programs of the University. The University Library houses a total collection of over Two lakh documents comprising books, theses, journals, and compact discs in the fields of Agricultural Science, Agricultural engineering, horticulture, literature, and social sciences. All in-house operations in the library are fully computerized using the Koha software package that also provides web-based access to the online catalog of the Library. The benefit of consortia-based subscription to electronic resources is confined to its core members and also extended to all Constitutional Colleges, Research stations &KVKs through Remote access.
TNAUACARI Health Management Wing
The University dispensary supports the health care activities of the students and staff members of the campus. The center provides medical care for all common ailments, chronic diseases ad medical emergencies. Screening camp for students for gynecological ailments and eye camps is regularly conducted in association with specialistsThe health center has four bedded facilities to treat the patients for common health disorders with the required medical equipment for diagnosis and treatments.
The NCC Unit of Agricultural College & Research Institute of TNAU, Coimbatore, consists of 104 cadets, comprising of first, second and third-year NCC cadets in various degree programs. 52 boys are present under 4 Tamil Nadu Battalion NCC and 52 girls are under 5 Tamil Nadu Battalion NCC, Coimbatore coming under Kovai NCC Group Head Quarters at Singanallur, Coimbatore. The NCC unit of 4 TNBN was started in the year 1958. The 5TNBN NCC unit was started in the year 2004.
The University's main campus has separate hostels for boys and girls with requisite infrastructural facilities. There are six hostels for boys and four for girls supported by a modern kitchen cum dining hall. Additionally, Norman Borlaug International Hostel is available for accommodating International students and professors' quarters for visiting fellows and external experts. A refreshment home is also functioning to cater to the food needs of the day scholars, staff, and visitors. Students who are given admission to the hostel are required to join the mess. The mess offers simple, but full-fledged meals at moderate rates, which may vary from time to time depending on the cost of the meals served.
TNAUACARI Rules and Regulations
The UG rules and regulations about the System of education, Registration of courses, Attendance requirements, Examinations, Industry, and institutional education tour, Discontinuance, Readmission, Question paper setting and evaluation, Approval of final results, award of degree, and the issue of Provisional Certificates and transcripts prescribed by the University will be followed. The detailed rules and regulations will be circulated to the students at the beginning of the semester.
The Placement Cell at the Centre for Students Welfare, TNAU serves as a platform between the students of TNAU and a plethora of industries. The placement cell hones the employability skills of the students through various career development activities. The cell guides them in selecting their career path by providing various resources and activities to facilitate the career planning process.
The central and state governments focus on providing a hustle-free platform for scholarships through a variety of schemes to students for their higher education. The Scholarship Cell functions in the Office of the Dean (Agricultural College and Research Institute), TNAU, Coimbatore to strengthen the bridge between the government providing scholarship schemes and students. The scholarship cell coordinates with all the constituent and affiliated colleges of TNAU with the undergraduate, Diploma, and postgraduate scholarships & fellowship governed activities.
Centre for Students Welfare, TNAU, Coimbatore has an international Cell for facilitating prospective students for Higher Education Abroad. TNAU has signed MOU with Dalhousie University, Canada to offer Dual Degree Program for UG students from 2009 onwards. Further, The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic and research linkage between Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada was prepared based on the guidelines of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Government of India. A general MOU was signed on 20.8.2020 between TNAU and Dalhousie University, Canada.
