In the winter of 1991, 5(Five) young minds were debating at a coffee table regarding values in education. There were heated arguments on the need for world-class education to prepare world-class human resources. Pradipta, who was an Aeronautical Engineer from IIT Kanpur was pessimistic saying that India could not become a knowledge hub because funds for educational institutions came from the coffers of the central and state governments. With minimum budget allocation for HRD purposes, these governments had no capacity to build up quality infrastructure for setting up the base for advanced education and research. There is no dearth of cynics who love to discuss this as the commercialization of education.

Little did they understand in that meeting that a revolution was coming barely after two years time in form of the decision of the Supreme Court in the landmark case of Unni Krishnan in 1993 where Their Lordships clearly said that gone were the days when Rajas and Maharajas who had funds, took the responsibility for setting up free educational institutions. The time has come when beneficiaries (students) have to pay for the cost of quality education and the private sector should be encouraged to build quality engineering and medical colleges in India in self-financing mode. Over the next 15 years, the issue has been fairly debated and finally, it has now been concluded by an 11-judge bench decision in the TMA Pai Foundation case of the Supreme Court duly clarified by the same court by a subsequent smaller bench in the case of PA Inamdar.

Be that as it may, these young minds 1991 did not start a college but instead, they started a software company under the name of “Trident Softech Private Limited” (TSPL). Through this company, they eventually set up a corporate finishing school in software education where fresh engineering graduates and engineers with experience were trained in special software like SYBASE, PowerBuilder, ORACLE, DB-2, JCL, etc. The concept had ready takers and quite easily with exposure to such software packages, these trained people started securing jobs in overseas markets. From this finishing school, known at that time as “Trident’s Advanced Computer Training” (A division of TSPL), the group has come a long way from 1995 to have forayed into many other sectors of organized education in phases starting two MCA colleges in 1998, Biotechnology college in 2002, Social Science College in 2005 and a top-class Engineering College in 2005. Efforts are relentless Institutions like B-Schools, Junior Science Colleges, and Paramedical Colleges are on the anvil.

The college has three in-campus hostels with a capacity of 1200 inmates. The rooms are spacious, well-furnished, and duly maintained. A mess facility is provided for students. Hygienic vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods are provided to the students at a nominal rate. An incoming telephone facility is provided for the hostel. There is a small library inside the hostel which is attached to a common room with a TV facility. All the hostels have Wi-Fi coverage with a small computer room with an internet connection. The hostel is provided with first aid kits and general medicines to take care of simple illnesses. A consulting room is available in the hostel. The college vehicle has been engaged to shift the sick to nearby hospitals in case of emergency. One pharmacist is always there to ensure the medical facilities of students. Several newspapers and magazines are subscribed to the hostels. Audio-visual facilities are also provided in the hall through television and audio systems. On the innovative front, Institute is planning to set up a rooftop solar system in hostels to provide warm water, to be used for various purposes.

The college has outsourced the transport facility, A dedicated fleet of buses has been provided by the operator and these buses ply five different routes picking up students from designated bus stops across the city.

From the session 2014-2015, the College placed a doctor’s chamber on the ground floor of the Administrative Block. Twice a week, the College is visited by a medicine specialist and a lady doctor to take care of the health issues pertaining to students and staff. The college management recommends a health checkups for all the hostel inmates regularly. In emergency health-related issues, the student is directed to Speciality and Super-Speciality hospitals of the City including KIIMS, Kalinga Hospitals, CARE Hospitals, AYUSH Hospitals, Kar Clinic, etc. The cost of the treatment is borne by the student/parents, but the immediate costs incurred are managed by the college.
