The college was founded on the 1st of August 1944, it was a small college with just three teachers and 11 girls located in Madho Vilas under the patronage of the royal family, particularly Maharani Gayatri Devi, and later renamed Intermediate College for Women, it has experienced a dramatic increase and has now reached its current capacity of over 8000 students. It is now Asia's biggest multi-faculty institution.
