Hyderabad University (IAST: Hydaravad visvavidyalayamu) is a central public research university in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, founded in 1974.The university was founded on the SixPoint Formula model of 1973. The first vice-chancellor of the university was the organic chemist of Banaras Hindu University, Gurbaksh Singh, from 1974 to 1979. Shri BD Jatti was the first rector of the university.

Residential Accommodation
The campus has three guesthouses and one reserved exclusively for participants of the Human Resources Development Center. The Lake View Guest was the first to be created and has around thirty single and double rooms. The Visiting Scholars Hostel has approximately 50 suites. The Silver Jubilee Block also has around 50 single and double rooms. Catering is provided in the pensions at fixed times. The guest houses are modestly equipped with air conditioners, wifi systems, and generators.
Library
The University has 23 hostels that accommodate over 5000 male and female students. Spread across campus, hostels are surrounded by lush greenery and pollution-free campus. The hostels are geographically located on the north and south campuses to allow students to be closer to their study/research departments. Priority is given to students from remote areas. The hostel is not provided for students residing within the jurisdiction of Twin Cities Municipality i.e. Hyderabad Secunderabad. The hostel allocation procedure also follows the reservation procedure in accordance with university regulations.
Central Instruments Laboratory
Central Instruments laboratory (CIL) is a central facility with state-of-art sophisticated analytical instruments to meet the needs of teachers and university researchers. The main tools of the CIL are in the field of Scanning Electron Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy, Spectroscopy (Rays, UVVISIR), Spin Resonance Studies, Vibrating Magnetometer. Medical services and health center -The Health Centre provides comprehensive primary health care and emergency medical services 24x7x365. The Out-Patient Department (OPD) functions from 9.00am. to 5.30 pm. on all University working days. Doctors are available on call on holidays.
Sports
The University of Hyderabad has developed excellent sports, games, and yoga facilities for the university community to participate in various games and sports and fitness activities of their choice and to stay fit and healthy. The university has a main sports complex in which a full-fledged standard-size cricket pavilion, standard 400-meter running equipment, Khokho playing volleyball court, open karate dojo, an indoor stadium housing four Yonex synthetic badminton courts with LED lighting, an inventory4,000 square foot artistic fitness center, a 4,000 square foot indoor gym containing facilities for table tennis, carom, and chess. The state-of-the-art fitness center houses the most modern and functional equipment fitness equipment that may help the university community to enhance their fitness scientifically.Â
Shopping Complex
The campus has two Shopping Complexes in both North and South campuses. The Shopping Complexes have canteens, salons, grocery store/s etc.
Food Court
Two food courts work in both North and South campuses. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner facilities.
Post Office
The Post Office is centrally located next to the Guest House. It functions between 9.30 am and 5 pm. The Post Office provides Speed Post, Registered Post, and Stamps.
ATMs
The campus has three ATMs–one near the Administration Building, one at the Shopping Complex (North), and one next to the Tagore International House (South Campus).
