In the early 1940s, there were only two colleges in all of Bengaluru. Government Secondary Schools and St. Józefa, which catered to the needs of students wishing to further their academic studies. Admission to Government College was difficult due to fewer students, and admission to St Joseph's was considered out of reach for many. Faced with the plight of the public and students, a group of visionaries came together and discussed the idea of creating a new educational institution to give deserving students the opportunity to continue their science studies. The group included Rao Bahadur Prof B. Venkateshachar, Prof V.T. Srinivasan, Sri K. Lakshminarayana Rao, and Sri K. Srinivasa Rao, Sri. CR Narayana Rao and others. The BHS Management Committee was formed in 1944 with a mission to provide an excellent education.

Placement Cell:

A vocational orientation and training center was set up at the college to meet the needs of the students. The cell's main goal is to equip students with essential life skills and to help them find internships. The activity of the cell was determined by Prof. Dr. Rajagopala Sastry from the Faculty of Economics and prof.HS Balakrishna, Department of Physics in 2005-2006. Her successor is Dr.AS Govind and Prof. S. Sundareshan from the Faculty of Physics.
