The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (formerly Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration. It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors. The Institute is a University that awards B.Tech., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees to students after their successful completion of the specified courses. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Information Technology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental science, Materials Science and Management Studies.

Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The Library as one of the important central facilities of the Institute supports the study, teaching, research, and development programs of the Institute. It is housed in a separate building having three floors on a plinth area of 1000 sq. meters. The library has a collection of 1.7 lakh volumes of books which includes Text Books, Reference Books & Bound volumes of Journals, Standards, etc. The Library subscribes to about 120 current Journals. Library operations have been automated with the help of an integrated library software package, LIBSYS-4. The book database is accessible through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Circulation Services are executed through Barcode System (Scanning). It has a good collection of Electronic resources in its Digital Library. It is an open-access library and remains open from 8:30 A.M. to 12:00 Midnight on weekdays and from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on weekends. The library has introduced a Wi-Fi Internet facility inside it to facilitate the free flow of information to the users. The library has a well-equipped Xerox facility. The users can avail of this facility on payment of a nominal charge. It has also some Audio-Visual equipment like Colour TVs, VCPs, Video-Camera, Projectors, Multimedia Projectors, etc. It has also a good IT infrastructure.

The library is an institutional member of DELNET (Developing Library Network), American Centre Library, Kolkata, NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning), and Current Science Association, Bangalore. It is also a beneficiary Member of eSodh Sindhu (ESS) initially known as INDEST-AICTE (Indian National Digital Library in Engineering, Science & Technology) Consortium, which provides Desktop Access to high-quality e-resources (online journals & databases) Springer Link 1700 collection, Nature Magazine, ACM journals, ASCE, ASME, AIP, APS, JCCC. JStore etc. The library is also a member of the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) which provides content access to some leading publishers’ books to the members. It has a good collection of Learning Resources. It has also a collection of several thousand E-Books on Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc. published by leading publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, CRC Press (T&F) and Oxford University Press available through Institute website.

Hostel Facilities:

Staying in hostels is mandatory for all undergraduate students of the Institute. There are seven hostels for boys, three of these halls have single-seated rooms for senior students and two hostels for girls to accommodate the admitted students. Each hostel has a separate mess managed under the supervision of wardens. All the hostels have their own volleyball & concrete Badminton courts with indoor games facilities like Table Tennis & Carom boards.

Sports Complex:

NIT has a central playfield named The Oval, where all major tournaments and matches are played and also accommodates a standard athletic track. There is one more ground called The Lords adjacent to the hostels, all major nonsports activities as well as sports activities are organized regularly.

Admission

NIT Durgapur Admissions 2023 is going on. NIT Durgapur JoSAA Round 3 cutoff and seat allotment have been declared on July 12. NIT Durgapur’s Round 3 cutoff 2023 for its flagship program, i.e., BTech Computer Science Engineering (General Category) ranges from 3070-12126. JoSAA will release the round 4 cutoff and seat allotment on July 16. Besides this, NIT Durgapur MTech and MSc admissions 2023 are also ongoing. NIT Durgapur CCMT Round 3 results for MTech are out. Furthermore, NIT Durgapur CCMN Round 3 seat allotments for MSc programs have also been released. For NIT Durgapur MTech and MSc Admissions 2023, the seat acceptance fee payment will be valid until July 16. NIT Durgapur MCA admissions are also going on. NIMCET Round 1 and 2 seat allocation has been released.

Scholarship

NIT Durgapur offers several scholarship schemes for its needy and meritorious students based on their scores/merits in the last qualifying examination or entrances. Also, the students seeking admission to the full-time M.Tech program of NIT Durgapur with a valid GATE Score can get a scholarship of INR 8,000. However, the Merit Scholarship is offered as per the guidelines of the institute. 

Placements

NIT Durgapur has started its 2023 placement drive for various departments. The highest salary of INR 70 LPA was offered. Top reputed recruiters include TCS Ninja, PwC, ICICI Bank, Microsoft, and many others. During the 2023 placement drive, more than 100 recruiters participated in the placement drive. 633 students were placed. During NIT Durgapur Placements 2023, the average salary stood at INR 13.64 LPA.

NIT Durgapur has started the Summer Internship Placements 2022. Till now, a total of 7 companies visited the campus and offered internships to 44 students for the internship programs.
