Every big thing has a humble beginning. Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya at Haripal, Hooghly (W.B.) too started its journey in its small way in the year 1966 after being affiliated to the University of Burdwan to cater to the needs of adjoining rural communities. It was started with the benign intention of imparting value-based education on the initiative undertaken by the spirited freedom fighter, Pandit Dharanath Bhattacharya. It was under his visionary leadership that a society known as ‘Vivekananda Samsad’ was formed to celebrate the centenary year of Swami Vivekananda.

Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya courses are offered at various levels like undergraduate programs Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Political Science, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Infrastructure and Facilities

Library:

The Central Library of Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya was started along with the establishment of the college in 1966 to cater to the Academic and Research activities on behalf of the college family, comprising faculty members, research scholars, students, and non-teaching colleagues. Since then the college library has progressed to live up to the expectation of its immediate stakeholders. The college is proud of its Library system which comprises the Central Library and 17 departmental libraries. The central library can provide most of the facilities needed to satisfy the thirst for knowledge enhancement to all the associated people and stakeholders. The college is grateful to those scholars and educationists of Haripal locality and Hooghly district who have contributed enormously to enrich the library variously. We are also thankful to the State Government, UGC, and the RUSA for our college Library for their book grant which has been sanctioned from time to time for the growth of the library.

Hostel:

Hostel: The college developed a " Women`s Hostel" under the FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE of the UGC Special Scheme. The journey started in 2006 with a motto to provide accommodation to the girl students who have been chiefly the first generation learner coming from the lowest layer of society to spread higher education.

Seminar Hall:

The college developed one large and well-furnished " Seminar Hall" under the Financial Assistance of the UGC XI-th Plan Grant (2007-12) in 2011.

Auditorium:

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

Cafeteria:

The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.

Gym:

The college has a Gym facility for the students.

Admission

The online admission process will be done based on merit.

Students will not be called for verification of documents during the process of admission (g.o. no. 804-end (cs),13.5.19).

No physical presence will be required at the college.

Payment of fees (application & admission) will be done only through e-payment.

All documents(age proof, caste, h.s.marks, photo & signature) are required to be uploaded online during application.

The application could be done in 3 hours. & 1 gen. courses at a time by rs. 200/- only.

If required, document verification will be done only when the students report for the classes.

Admission will be canceled if the documents are found not in conformity with the declaration in the forms.
