About VSR & NVR College, Guntur

Tenali famous as Andhra Paris did not have even a single educational institution of higher learning even in the late 1940s. The poor especially the weaker sections of Tenali and Repalle Taluqs were unable to go for higher education due to a lack of an institution. Nannapaneni's belief that the upliftment of the poor and disadvantaged is only possible through the means of providing them with a higher education led to the establishment of VSR College in 1951. Mustering strength in every way from different angles, he constituted The Tenali College Committee, Tenali with people committed to the cause of education.

Residential Accommodation

Though gender equality in all walks of life is advocated, girls, especially those studying UG are a little immature and have to be taken care of by the authorities.  Our Girls Hostel is located in a safe and secure place and care is taken to see that no one can enter the premises without prior permission. Boys and girls have two hostels with WiFi services for UG and PG, which can accommodate around 150 students each with good infrastructure. A well-equipped gymnasium is set up for the students of the hostel to develop the physical abilities of boys and girls. They also have indoor play facilities. A hygienic mess is attached to hostels. The Library

As Library is the heart of the institution, it is being given priority since its inception in 1951. It is a well-established and well-ventilated library, which has been acclaimed as one of the best libraries in Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone was laid by Ex-President Sri V V Giri.

The paradigm shift in higher education due to globalization has brought many changes in the libraries. As the focus is on learner-centred learning, libraries have become more important than ever. Our Library has become user-friendly, sees that students make use of technology for their good, develops information focused on patron’s needs and tries to satisfy the higher expectations of the information-conscious user community. 

Medical Services and Health Center

Sudden sickness will be attended to immediately as there is a missionary hospital just opposite the gate. As most of the students hail from nearby villages, parents are contacted immediately. Just half a kilometre away from the college, a clinic is being run by an alumna, who is a famous surgeon. Students, who need immediate attention will be taken to that hospital and treatment is given.

The Department of Physical Education takes care of the student player. If anyone is hurt while playing.  Over so many years, no calamity is reported. A medical check-up is an annual feature.

Sport

The Department of Physical Education s a wonderful infrastructure and no college in this area can beat it. Since its inception, equal importance is given to games and sports and over 73 years of its existence it produced several National/ International players and coaches, especially in volleyball. M.  Shyam Sunder, the Arjuna and Dronacharya awardee is an old student of our college. The institution produced several national/ international players and coaches. Because of the salubrious site and playgrounds, students can play any game of their choice.

Transport

Most of the students of VSR&NVR College are from nearby villages. Some students come to college by bicycle and, those, who can afford come by motorbikes.   Several buses ply from different places and most of them stop at the college.  As it is cheaper to come by bus, students do not prefer any other transportation.

SC/ST/MINORITY/ OBC students used to get scholarships till two years ago. The amount used to be deposited in the principal’s account, which was given to the students in the form of cheques after reimbursing the fee the students have to pay.

Of late the amount in a different name is sent to the account of the mother of the student and they pay the fees in four instalments. As such no sanctioning proceedings are sent to the college office.
