Founded in 1947 by Dhondumama Sathe, Walchand College of Engineering (WCE) embarked on its journey with a singular undergraduate course in Civil Engineering, catering to 60 students. Initially affiliated with Bombay University, the institution transitioned to Pune University following its establishment in 1948. It wasn't until 1955 that the college underwent a significant transformation, being rechristened in honor of Walchand Hirachand, a revered industrialist.The evolution continued as Shivaji University was established in Kolhapur in 1962, marking another shift in WCE's affiliations.
