Zakir Husain Delhi College, founded in 1696, is the oldest existing educational institution in India, and is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, accredited with NAAC 'A++' grade.
The origin of the Zakir Husain Delhi College can be traced to the closing years of the 17th Century, with the founding of a Madrasa by Ghaziuddin Khan, one of Emperor Aurangzeb’s leading Deccan commanders and the father of the first Nizam of Hyderabad. The complex containing his tomb, a mosque, and a Madrasa, can be visited today outside the Ajmeri Gate near the Dargah of the 13th-century Sufi, Hazrat Hafiz Sadullah. The college was affiliated to Delhi University in 1925 and became one of its constituent degree colleges in 1929.
Zakir Husain Delhi College is affiliated with the University of Delhi and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Zakir Husain Delhi College's programs are available at different levels, like Undergraduate Degree i.e. Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) English, Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons.) Facilities and Infrastructure
Zakir Husain Delhi College has a sprawling campus that is well-maintained and provides a serene environment for learning. The buildings are modern and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, BZakir Husain Delhi College making it easier for students to learn and faculty to teach. The classrooms of Zakir Husain Delhi College, lecture halls, and labs are spacious, comfortable, and designed to provide an excellent learning experience. The library is also outstanding, with a vast collection of books, online resources, and knowledgeable librarians.
Library
Mirza Mehmood Beg Library, the College Library of Zakir Husain Delhi College (University of Delhi), New Delhi, is one of the oldest libraries in the Delhi University system, which came into existence way back in 1792 with the foundation of the College. It is fully air-conditioned with a total collection of around 90,000 documents. It runs on a fully open-access system. It has two reading halls with a seating capacity of 100 each and a well-equipped multimedia lab having 78 computers connected to Delhi University through WAN.
The Library also houses two teachers’ enclosures having a collective seating capacity of 20. It also houses one Enabling Unit for differently-abled users of the Library. It also has one room dedicated to the Delhi College Archives wherein very old, rare, and historical documents related to the College history as well as the history of Delhi have been kept. The Library also has a good collection of rare books and manuscripts. Besides textbooks and books related to academic requirements, the Library also subscribes to leading magazines, leisure books, competitive books, and books related to general awareness. It also houses a Book Bank with a rich collection of around 12000 books.
Sports
The college has always maintained its position in the top 3 in Inter-college Football tournaments organized by Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) and won many other tournaments too. In the last few years, our team has won the Football Tournament organized by Reliance many times and represented the north zone at the Reliance National Football Tournament held at Mumbai in 2017-18 becoming the National Champions the same year.
Besides Football, Volleyball and Judo are the other two teams that are currently the Champions and bring laurels to the college. Department provides its students with excellent infrastructure, financial support, and vigorous training. As a result, the department is embellished with many International, National, State & University level Players. The college regularly participates in Inter College tournaments organized by Delhi University Sports Council as well as in open competitions held for colleges from time to time. The Department of Physical Education & Sports Sciences also organizes Intramural competitions for the general students in games like Chess, Table-Tennis, Basketball, Carom & Volleyball, regularly.
Auditorium
The College has a fully functional, Centrally Air Conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 417 persons. The auditorium has a state-of-the-art audio-visual system and a multi-functional lighting arrangement. Various cultural programs, lectures, and college annual functions are organized in this auditorium.
Seminar
The seminar room is one of the state-of-art facilities in the college. It is equipped with an audio system and projection facilities. Lectures of prominent people, seminars, and discussions are organized here.
